Captain Marvel 2 Setting Up Avengers 5:
Marvel is prioritizing the release of Captain Marvel 2 over Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 because there’s a big reason for it. That reason is none other than Avengers 5 or probably The New Avengers film. Captain America: Civil War was a great film for many reasons. One of them was setting up the next two Avengers films. And since 2016, we’ve been waiting for our next Civil War like film that will involve the main heroes of the MCU and probably even set up the next Avengers movie. Well, we thought that it was going to be Doctor Strange 2, but a new rumor suggests that it’s probably Captain Marvel 2 instead.
Notice that Captain Marvel 2 is coming out 3 years after the release of the original. Every other sequel (expect for Spider-Man because of Sony’s intervention) is taking 4-5 years for putting out another sequel. Logically, we thought that Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 might take the July 2022 date like its two predecessors, but Marvel is going with Captain Marvel 2 instead. That’s because Captain Marvel is a major name and a big priority for Marvel. They have to bring her in as the next leader of the Avengers, and that’s why she is getting a sequel sooner than everyone else.
According to MCUCosmic, the New Avengers movie will be led by Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Captain Marvel 2 will set it up. New Avengers will probably not arrive until 2024 since 2023 is jam packed already with films like Deadpool, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 or one of a few titles like Nova or X-Men that could end up surprising us big time. So, Captain Marvel 2 could set the stage up for Avengers 5 perfectly.
When we say that it could be the next Civil War level event, that doesn’t mean that there would be another hero vs. hero team up dispute here. That probably won’t happen until Avengers vs. X-Men. What we do mean here is that Captain Marvel 2 will be about showing us how Carol will be the perfect leader. How she’s more eligible to lead the next team instead of Doctor Strange or Black Panther, or even veterans like Smart Hulk or Thor.
We’ve heard rumors that Captain Marvel 2 might take us for a cosmic ride. In fact rumors have also suggested that writer Megan McDonnell has already pitched an idea for Captain Marvel 2 to be inspired by Aliens and [2001:] A Space Odyssey. It will be a sort of cosmic horror movie because of the creepiest looking alien species from Marvel comics, the Brood being involved in the film.
The plot of this pitched idea will see Carol Danvers working with SWORD and Nick Fury & Maria Hill will reappear to team up with Carol. The rest of the details are:
“The film will deal with the SWORD base being compromised by a rare, alien threat. That threat is the Brood, who are laying eggs on the SWORD base and possessing agents. It turns out that only male operatives can get compromised, which leads to the formation of the A-Force. Carol and the other female heroes of the Marvel Universe must stop the spread of the Brood and their influence across the galaxy. It turns out that the species are operating as parasites and have been secretly conquering planets in the universe. In order to kill them, they must kill the Empress Brood, which means going to their home planet.
The film, similar to Ragnarok, will 95% take place in space. A complete tonal and visual departure from the original.”
So, if Carol can lead a team of Marvel’s female heroes in the cosmos, then that would establish her as someone who is perfect for the leadership role of the New Avengers team. Unlike Doctor Strange & Black Panther, Carol has the cosmic experience of 25 years, and Earth is now the middle grounds for almost every cosmic attack. So, Captain Marvel will indeed lead the New Avengers. Let’s see if these rumors end up being true.
