Original Movies of The 2010s:
In a world where the movie industry is cluttered with sequels, remakes, and reboots, the original feature films are being overlooked and we cannot allow that to happen. It is about time we acknowledge these movies that owe their success to its original concepts and creativity.
#10: Get Out (2017)
Get Out was a surprise for us all as none of us had any real expectations from this movie. This movie marked the directorial debut of Jordan Peele, who is known for his comedy roles, so it was natural that no one gave any weight to this movie. To our surprise, Get Out turned out to be one of the best and most original horror movies of recent times.
#9: The Lobster (2015)
The Lobster has one of the most unique and peculiar stories, and it might seem downright weird when you first come to know about it. The movie is absurd, but that works in its favor. The movie is set in a dystopian future where Colin Farrell’s character must find love within 45 days or else he would be transformed into a beast.
#8: The Tree of Life (2011)
Brad Pitt has been a part of so many amazing movies over the years but it is a shame that this movie went under the radar, as he gives one of his best performances of all time in The Tree of Life. It is a super rare movie and it is presented uniquely. The Tree of Life is a bold movie that deserves more attention.
#7: The Shape of Water (2017)
We have nothing but respect for Guillermo del Toro in our hearts and when we heard that he was making this movie we knew it was going to be something special. The Shape of Water is a movie for hopeless romantics and it will grab your attention from the get-go.
#6: The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a masterpiece and it is one of the most refreshing movies of today’s time. The movie boasts of a spectacular cast and it is directed by the visionary Wes Anderson, who just lets his imagination run wild in this movie. You cannot bound this movie to a specific genre as it creates its own genre.
#5: Inside Out (2015)
At this point, we have lost count of how many good movies Pixar has produced. Inside Out is a rare animated movie that both adults and kids can enjoy. The Visuals are full of stunning colors and the attention to detail is amazing. This movie, like all the other Pixar movies, has the potential to break your heart at times.
#4: Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Birdman is an artistic masterpiece which is a treat for those who like to submerge inside the head of a character. This movie is not for everyone as it is a very heavy watch and to enjoy it you must pick up the subtle cues and symbolisms. All the actors are marvelous but the main hero of the movie is the director Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
#3: Her (2013)
Joaquin Phoenix has been a fantastic actor for years and it feels good to know that all the mainstream fans finally know about him, all thanks to Joker (2019). ‘Her’ is a movie that will leave you speechless. The movie displays a more ‘realistic’ side of Science Fiction. The movie is about loneliness and it will leave you thinking about your life.
#2: Whiplash (2014)
Whiplash is a movie about Passion and Grit. It is an incredibly powerful film that will move you to your core. The movie is about an aspiring drummer, but it is not just for music lovers. It is about finding your inner spirit and creativity to achieve success by giving it your all. J.K. Simmons was straight-up terrifying in this movie.
#1: Inception (2010)
It was Christopher Nolan’s dream to make this movie and he had to wait years to finally make it. Inception is a mesmerizing and captivating experience that is just plain genius. It is truly a ‘one of a kind movie’. All the actors are fantastic as well, DiCaprio being the standout. Inception is the most original movie of the 2010s without a speck of doubt.
