Everyone Who Has Hosted a Symbiote In Live-Action Movies

Venom: Let There Be Carnage saw Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady taking the Symbiote Carnage. Even though Sony is working on the Symbiotes as a part of its own Spider-Man cinematic universe, they have previously appeared in the Sam Raimi trilogy as the prime antagonist to Peter in the third Spider-Man film. But it is only now that we have been able to see the various types of Symbiotes that exist. The Sony movies are giving us a proper chance to explore the world of the Symbiotes. This is a rather exciting take as we might get to see Venom fight alongside Peter Parker considering his positive turn in the Sony movies. Several characters have been hosts to Symbiotes. So, let’s take a look at everyone who has hosted a Symbiote in Marvel movies so far.

Everyone Who Has Hosted a Symbiote

Peter Parker (Sam Raimi Trilogy)

This was our first introduction towards the Symbiote and it was even given a proper introduction in the movie as an otherworldly virus. Spider-Man 3 had the worst reception of the films in the trilogy but it received praise for the way Venom was portrayed and the way it affected Peter. This would also mark the only time that Symbiote has taken over Spider-Man himself in a movie so far. We got to see the Symbiotic suit which resulted in the Black Spider-Man. The powers of Venom made Peter stronger than before but at the same time affected his personality too. Upon realizing this Peter gets rid of the Symbiote and it moves on to find another host.

Eddie Brock (Sam Raimi Trilogy)

Eddie Brock has previously appeared in the movies with Topher Grace taking the role of Peter’s competitor at the Daily Bugle. This version of the character works against Spider-Man and decided to destroy the latter’s life with whatever opportunity he can get. Venom uses the anger that Eddie has against Peter as a prime motivation for the character. Upon realizing Sandman also shares a somewhat similar feeling for Spider-Man, both the characters decide to work together and kill the Web-Crawler. This makes for a massive ending for the movie as both the villains almost end up killing Peter Parker.

Eddie Brock (Venom)

Everyone Who Has Hosted a Symbiote

This Eddie Brock is a lot more different than the one we got to see previously in Sam Raimi’s trilogy. The primary driving force for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock was not revenge but rather finding out the truth behind Carlton Drake and he was overall a positive character. This made his time as a host to Venom some sort of a heroic character with a moral. One of the most interesting parts of this portrayal has to be the way in which Eddie tries to work out the dynamic between him and Venom. This plays an essential plotline for the movie and we get to see them go through various moments of arguing with each other over what is right and wrong.

Anne Weying (Venom)

We got to see Anne Weying serve as the host for Venom right around the end of Venom. She works as a vessel to reach Eddie before the latter goes for the final battle against Riz Ahmed’s Carlton Drake. There was a lot of expectation for the period over which She-Venom gets to exist but it was not used as well as it could have been. We also get to see this happen in Venom 2 when Eddie asks for Anne’s help in finding Venom when Eddie and Venom had parted ways. Later we get to see She-Venom help Eddie from the police custody before making Eddie the host for the Symbiote again.

Cletus Kasady (Venom: Let There Be Carnage)

Everyone Who Has Hosted a Symbiote

Carnage is taken host by Cletus Kasady. This Symbiote is the biggest antagonist to Venom from the comic books. The major reason behind this is the fact that the hosts are as pure evil as a character can be in the movie. This psychotic persona is what helps the Symbiote properly bond with the person making them quite a terrifying villain as a result.

Mrs. Chen (Venom: Let There Be Carnage)

Mrs. Chen first appeared in Venom as played by Peggy Lu. The store owner is someone who comes across Eddie’s life as both of them know each other for a long time. They have a deal when Eddie saves Chen from an armed robbery, and this deal remains as she now gives chocolate to Eddie and Venom in return. The sequel gives us a look at her fusing with Venom before the latter bonds with a lot of other people.

Patrick Mulligan (Venom: Let There Be Carnage)

Another interesting character who is taken host by Venom is Patrick Mulligan played by Stephen Graham. The character is inspired by the comic books as he ends up being taken host by the Symbiote Toxin that is an offspring created by Carnage in Venom Vs. Carnage #2. It is yet unclear whether this will follow through in the movies as we continue with the series. Around the end of the movie we do get to see a piece of Carnage latch onto the detective as his eyes glow and he mutters the word “monsters”.

Carlton Drake (Venom)

Carlton Drake plays the villain in the movie and we get to see him taken over by the Riot Symbiote. This was not inspired by the comic books as this was not something that was previously seen. We get to see the character being explored as a proper villain with an exciting sequence with Venom around the end of the movie.

Honorable Mention – A Dog (Venom)

Venom bonded with poor little Gemini in order to move back to Eddie. So he used this dog as a ride and moved to Anne before getting back to Eddie.

So this was everyone who has hosted a Symbiote in Marvel movies so far. Who else would you like to see as Venom’s host in the future? Let us know.
