We May Have Missed Doctor Octopus in the Morbius Trailer

Doctor Octopus in the Morbius Trailer:

The Morbius trailer has revealed a bunch of new aspects which might be confusing for many MCU fans. Throughout the trailer, we got connections to the MCU which people were not expecting. Instead, we were assuming that the trailer would connect to Venom somehow. But that didn’t happen. This brought us to a conclusion that may be, Morbius is in the MCU but Venom isn’t. There’s one thing that the trailer did very well – show us all the characters that are going to be important in the movie.

In the trailer, we got a look at Tyrese Gibson’s character. Gibson is playing an FBI agent Simon Stroud, who is hunting down Morbius. Then Adria Arjona who is appearing as Martine Bancroft, appeared in the trailer. She is the love interest of Michael Morbius in the comics and could be the same in the movie as well. Sherlock Holmes star Jared Harris appeared as the mentor of Morbius and finally we also got the first look at Doctor Who star Matt Smith who is portraying the villain of the film, Loxias Crown aka Hunger.

Now the character that no one is talking about from this trailer is Jared Harris. We see him as a mentor & even a sort of father figure in Morbius’ life. After Michael Morbius starts showing signs of turning into a Vampire in the trailer, Morbius asks his mentor – “How far are we allowed to go to fix something that’s broken?” Harris’ character replies – “until the remedy is worse than the disease.” The “worse remedy” that’s being referred to is the human blood thirst that Morbius will develop becoming a Vampire.

But this particular line – “until the remedy is worse than the disease” also relates to another Spider-Man character, i.e. Doctor Octopus. As we’ve seen in Spider-Man 2, Doctor Octavius tries to find a remedy for the limited power that the world has. In the process, he loses his wife and fuses his body with mechanical tentacles. Ultimately he loses control and the villain in him takes over.

What we’re getting at over here is that Jared Harris’ character is unnamed. And since he is a big name actor and fits the age bar of Doc Ock perfectly, many fans are assuming that he could be playing Doctor Octavius. This would actually be a cool spin on the character as he won’t be associated to Spider-Man.

Facts About Robert De Niro

We’ve established that Morbius is definitely going to be a part of the MCU. And Morbius could be a movie that introduces us to a major villain like Doctor Octopus. It is a stretch because Morbius and Doc Ock don’t necessarily have a connection. But MCU is currently in a position where they could alter backstories of characters as they deem fit and people will still like them. So anything is possible. This way not only Morbius, but Doc Ock could also be a villain amongst the Sinister Six. Although, this is a theory so take it as a grain of salt.

Venom & Morbius Exist in Different Universes

With Morbius being in the MCU, things do become very interesting. Suddenly, the MCU will have a new character which no one thought of. Marvel is already trying to introduce Vampires in the MCU as Mahershala Ali is coming in as Blade. So, Morbius & Blade might hit it off real nice in a future film. Marvel could really surprise us by allowing Blade to appear at the end of Morbius. Let’s see what happens.

It’d be interesting to see how Sony & Marvel will handle Venom as Tom Holland is supposed to have a cameo in Venom 2. That could make things very confusing if Venom isn’t a part of the MCU. For now, let’s focus on Morbius. It will star Jared Leto, Tyrese Gibson, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris and Matt Smith. It comes out on July 31, 2020.
