Joker Gets 11 Oscar Nominations. What About Avengers Endgame?
Joker Gets 11 Oscar Nominations:
Joker becomes the first DC Comics movie to get nominated for the Best Picture at the 92nd annual Academy Awards. It won’t be the first DC Film to win one Oscar as Suicide Squad already won one back in 2017. But, it has surely broken Marvel’s record getting more Oscar nominations. Black Panther was nominated in 8 categories last year. And now, Joker has got nominated in 11 Oscar Categories. What about Avengers: Endgame though?
Joker gets nominated for Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix), Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Costume Design, Best Cinematography and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. As compared to this, Avengers: Endgame gets nominated for just Oscar, and that’s for Best Visual Effects.
It is crazy to note that Martin Scorsese, who stated the MCU films to be “Not Cinema”, has earned more nominations than the MCU film, Avengers: Endgame. The Irishman has been nominated for 10 Oscars in total (Best Picture is one of them) and Scorsese individually gets nominated for Best Directing.
Another interesting feature to note here is that even Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has secured itself an Oscar Nomination for Best Visual Effects. It got one for Best Original Score & Best Sound Editing as well. Moving past that, Scarlett Johansson seems to have had her career-best year as she made us all cry in Avengers: Endgame. Then she gets nominated in two major categories, i.e. Best Actress (Marriage Story) and Best Supporting Actress (Jojo Rabbit). This has never happened before.
