We all know that committing a crime is bad and one should never do it, despite knowing this we can’t help but be fascinated by seeing people do bad things in movies. What is it about these upsetting stories that make us come back for more? This decade has given us many such stories, but these ten movies are a class apart.
#10: Wind River (2017)
Wind River is an intelligent Murder Mystery that will captivate your attention from the get-go. The movie picks up slowly and it builds the tension excellently. The quality of the production value is superb and all the actors are amazing. Wind River is definitely going to leave a life-long impact on you as some of the scenes depicted in the movie are beyond chilling.
#9: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
David Fincher is a Genius when it comes to the crime genre as he has given us so many gems, including this movie. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig give one of their best performances of all time. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a story about a Journalist who searches for a woman who has been missing for decades, by taking the help of a young computer hacker.
#8: Drive (2011)
Ryan Gosling has the ability to pick the best scripts as we have never really seen him in a bad movie. Drive is not your regular crime movie, it is intelligent and it expects the audience to keep up with it. The movie is about a mysterious man who finds himself in trouble when he helps out a neighbor and the atmosphere depicted in the movie is haunting.
#7: Nightcrawler (2014)
Nightcrawler tells the story of Louis Bloom, a sociopath with a videographer, who covers the crime world in LA for a local news station. As soon as Jake Gyllenhaal signed this movie, we knew that it is going to be something special. Nightcrawler will make you uncomfortable as it will question your morality on every level.
#6: Spotlight (2015)
Spotlight won the Oscar for Best Picture and it absolutely deserved it. Based on the true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese. The movie is fantastically made but it will also make you sad as it depicts the abuse of children at a very big level.
#5: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a story about grief and tragedy and it is depicted in a stellar way. Both Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell won an Oscar for their performances, which proves that the acting in this movie was top-notch. Sometimes, Revenge is the correct answer.
#4: The Irishman (2019)
This movie will take you back to the era where Crime movies were all the rage. The movie is very long, despite that, you won’t be able to look away. The main focus of The Irishman is on acting, and why wouldn’t it be with a cast like this? Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci, all of them give their best performances. The Irishman is a true mobster crime movie.
#3: Prisoners (2013)
Prisoners is a thought-provoking crime drama that is incredibly well acted and well written. How far would you go when it comes to your family? This question is the central theme of the movie. Prisoners is intense and it will challenge your morals, so much so that at times it becomes very hard to sit through.
#2: The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Leonardo DiCaprio deserved an Oscar for his performance for this movie and it is a shame that he lost. The Duo of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio has never disappointed us as The Wolf of Wall Street will keep you on your toes from beginning to end.
#1: Joker
The Joker depicts one of the best character developments ever seen on the big screen. You will think about this movie for years as it dives deep into the mind of a broken man, pushed to the edge by society. Joaquin deserves all the praise he is getting for this movie and we can’t believe that this movie really exists.
