Facts About Silver Surfer:
Silver Surfer is one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Universe and he has gone toe-to-toe with some of the biggest characters. As Phase 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially over, it would be interesting to see how they would incorporate a character such as Silver Surfer into the mix.
Some of you may already know the character from the movie The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). So, we’ll ask you to forget about that as that movie didn’t capitalize on the character’s full potential.
#1: Creation and Debut
Silver Surfer was created by the Legendary Jack Kirby along with Galactus. His first appearance was back in the comic book Fantastic Four #48, in the year 1966. Jack Kirby stated that the inspiration behind Silver Surfer was the Bible. He modelled Silver Surfer after Lucifer. Just as Lucifer was banished by God, Silver Surfer was banished by Galactus. But Silver Surfer fights against evil.
#2: Origin and Purpose
Silver Surfer was originally a young astronomer named Norrin Radd who lived on the planet Zenn-La. He saved his home from the planet devourer, Galactus, by serving as his herald. In return, he got imbued with a tiny portion of Galactus’s Power Cosmic. Thanks to that, Radd acquired vast power, a new body and a surfboard-like craft on which he could travel faster than light, and hence, Silver Surfer was born.
#3: He is one of the most powerful beings in Marvel
Silver Surfer has a wide range of powers which include Superhuman strength, durability, Flight, Light Speed travel, Energy and Matter Manipulation, Telekinesis, Telepathy, Intangibility, Invisibility, Star Creation, Blackhole creation, Pocket universe creation, illusion casting, cosmic senses, Phasing. Overkill, right?
#4: He stopped the Crazy Hulk
In Planet Hulk storyline, The Hulk became one of the most-strongest beings in the entire universe, and no one was able to stop him except Silver Surfer. He did that without the power cosmic. The Power Cosmic made Silver Surfer as strong as Galactus and Silver Surfer is the most powerful Herald of Galactus.
#5: He can absorb the powers of others and use it.
Silver Surfer has already overpowered thanks to the Power cosmic and on top of that, he also has the ability to suck all the powers of his enemies and use it himself. He once absorbed the Gamma radiation from the Hulk and effectively cured Bruce Banner. Now imagine an overpowered Silver Surfer, who also has all the powers of The Hulk, we can’t even fathom his power level.
#6: Unlimited Regeneration
Silver Surfer can regenerate any part of his body and even the parts of his legendary silver board at his will. He is completely in control of himself. Even if you manage to land a blow on him and damage his body parts, he’ll just regenerate. So, in order to defeat him, you have to defeat the Power Cosmic inside of him, as physical attacks are basically useless.
#7: He Controls all Four of the Fundamental Forces of the Universe
At this point, it is not even surprising, as Silver Surfer can do everything. He can control Gravity, Electromagnetism, the strong force, and the weak force – all the four fundamental forces of the universe. He can use them in any manner he feels like without any problem.
#8: He was a part of ‘The Defenders’
Silver Surfer has been fighting against evil since the beginning, but at one point the threat became too big to handle alone. So, he banded together with the Hulk and Namor the Sub-Mariner to fight evil, and the group was called “Titans Three”. Sometime after that The Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange joined their team and formed the group “Defenders”.
#9: He doesn’t need to eat or drink
Silver Surfer is a cosmic being and unlike other beings, he can travel through outer space without needing Oxygen and air. He does not need a breath to survive. He also doesn’t need food or water to survive and does not need to ever eat. He gets energy by absorbing the life-maintaining energy through his skin to survive.
#10: He can Time Travel
Is there anything The Silver Surfer cannot do? Well apparently, the answer is No, as he can do Time Travel as well. He has time-traveled on several occasions in the comic books and he is even able to make others time travel with him.
