Hulk’s Character Ruined In Avengers Endgame:
The Fans went crazy after the highly anticipated sequel to Infinity War, Avengers Endgame was released as it was a dream come true for every comic book lover. Avengers Endgame was an epic culmination of 11 years and 22 movies worth of Franchise Building.
The Fans absolutely loved Endgame and they had no complaints except one. What The Hell happened to The Hulk? Why did the makers treat such an awesome character so poorly?
In Avengers Infinity War, we realise that in order to show the true strength of Thanos, it was necessary for him to beat down Hulk, but his complete disappearance from the rest of the movie was very shocking and disappointing. The problem here was not that the Hulk was defeated, but the fact that he was afraid of Thanos after the beating.
The Hulk has never been afraid to fight anyone in the history of Marvel Comic Books. In fact, he has even defeated Thanos in the comic books. We all saw the potential of Hulk in the first Avengers movie, and he was the highlight of that movie.
In the first Avengers movie, Hulk was portrayed as a force to be reckoned with, the Angry Giant who even made the “Gods” tremble. It all went downhill after that, as instead of making him the strongest Avenger they made The Hulk a platform for other characters’ development. He lost to the Hulkbuster in Avengers Age Of Ultron (He came to his senses), then he lost to Thor in Ragnarök (Arguably) and then he was decimated by Thanos in Infinity War.
We all accepted this without raising any questions as we knew that The Hulk would definitely redeem himself in Avengers Endgame. But what happened, in reality, was far more disappointing that any of us could comprehend. His character development ended before the movie even started (rightly mentioned in the Honest Trailer). Marvel missed a Huge opportunity here as Professor Hulk is an awesome character in the comics, and they could have made him an equally badass character, but instead, we got a Goofy Hulk who makes lame jokes and dabs.
Infinity War and Endgame developed the character of Bruce Banner very well and we are thankful for that, but they did not even try that for the Hulk. He was used as a comic relief even though we had Thor and Rocket for it.
How many of you were waiting for a rematch between The Hulk and Thanos in Avengers Endgame? It was possibly the most anticipated moment and we were ultimately robbed of that as well. We wanted The Hulk to smash, but unfortunately, he did not even fight! Not even Thanos’ children or even his minions.
Apart from the smashing part, Bruce Banner and Black Widow’s relationship was given a lot of weight in the Age of Ultron and how did the makers pay off that relationship in Endgame? They didn’t, there was no emotional payoff, just a weak punch to the ground. There were so many opportunities for the makers to redeem the Hulk and God knows all of us wanted it, but they decided to make him the butt of the joke every time. They even nerfed the Hulk big time, but that is understandable as then it would have become very difficult for the makers to restore the power balance.
The last thread that most of the fans are clinging on to is the fact that we might see The Hulk in the future Marvel movies. Maybe Kevin Feige has planned something big for the Hulk in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that is a big maybe.
After Iron Man and Captain America are no longer there, and Thor has left on a journey to find himself, Hulk is the only Original Avenger left who can guide the superheroes and we hope that Marvel does not ruin that as they have ruined all the other aspects of our of beloved character, The Mighty Hulk.
