Ant-Man 3 Storyline May Have Been Seeded in Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame was meant to be the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, but it turned out to be so much more. Just imagine, it actually set up the pilot episodes of 3 upcoming Disney+ series (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Loki & Hawkeye), teased Black Widow, Spider-Man: Far From Home & Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But what people didn’t notice is that it may have planted the seeds for Ant-Man 3 as well.

On the Avengers: Endgame commentary track, Joe Russo & Stephen McFeely address the reunion of Ant-Man and the Wasp when Cap asked Scott to get the van working. It was a very sweet little moment which foreshadows the previous film that both of these heroes were a part of. Hope didn’t like the idea of Scott going in to fight the Civil War without her. She never really understood why Scott supported Cap & other Avengers. But since the Avengers were the ones that brought her & her family back, she totally understood that Scott was right all along.

The creatives said:

“Joe Russo – And this is just the gentlest reunion for these two characters.

McFeely – Yeah that’s the thing, they don’t get much even though he’s a driving force the story.

Joe – Now, if there’s another Ant-Man movie, there’s some stuff to play there.”

Joe Russo teases the next chapter of the Ant-Man and the Wasp. Hope & Scott have obviously formed a strong bond amongst each other and that’s what the final few moments of Endgame also teased. So, what we can take from this is that if the next Ant-Man and the Wasp movie does get made, it will be about family!

Avengers: Endgame Theory Ant-Man

Director Peyton Reed has already talked about the various bread crumbs that the third film could pick up from the first 2 Ant-Man movies. He told Comicbook.com:

“There are definitely things in this movie that, if we’re fortunate enough to make another one, there’s a lot to play with. We spend more time in the Quantum Realm in this movie, obviously, than the first movie but it feels like we’re just dipping our toes into it.

There are always conversations. We’re always aware of what the other people are doing with the movies. It’s less like, ‘You’ve gotta do this so it pays off here.’ It usually is the opposite where, ‘What you guys do in your movie is gonna effect a movie,’ even if portions of that movie have already been shot, we have to do what’s true to this movie, to tell this still and have it be complete — and then it’s the other person’s problem!”

Well, Kevin Feige didn’t name a third Ant-Man movie at Comic-Con, but that doesn’t mean that the film won’t come out. 2022 could actually be the year that brings us the next chapter in the Ant-Man franchise. It will most definitely involve the Quantum Realm in a much more stringent way. Rumor has it that the film will actually use the Quantum Realm to introduce us with the Fantastic Four, and that will directly follow into the Fantastic Four film itself.

Avengers: Endgame Ant-Man in Thanos Butt

There was an entire city within the Quantum Realm. The next film should surely address that. Moreover, we could expect Darren Cross to return & the condition of Ghost to be addressed as well. Another factor that Ant-Man 3 could play with is passing on the mantle to Cassie Lang. Endgame very conveniently grew her up. The Hawkeye show is bringing us Cate Bishop, and Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 could make Cassie Lang a superhero as well. That’s how a Young Avengers movie will be set up in the MCU.

People think that Marvel may actually skip the third Ant-Man movie, and Paul Rudd actually asked us to demand the film so Marvel could make it. But the reality is that Marvel cannot afford to skip Ant-Man 3. It is too important just for the reasons discussed above.
