Deadpool 2 Director Addresses Deadpool Not Being A Part of Marvel’s Phase 4 Slate
People are still wondering what Marvel is going to do with the Fox properties. Kevin Feige confirmed that they have films involving the Fantastic Four and Mutants in development but we obviously didn’t get a definitive answer. Properties like Wolverine and Deadpool are extremely viable and Marvel would surely be aware of that. Yes, Marvel is certainly looking to reboot these properties so the Deadpool franchise is expected to get a revamp as well.
Marvel announced their slate for Phase 4 and all those films did not include any of the Fox characters. A while back, Kevin Feige confirmed that it’s going to be a while before the Fox properties will come into play since Marvel already has plans in motion. He told iO9:
“It’ll be a while. It’s all just beginning and the five-year plan that we’ve been working on, we were working on before any of that was set. So really it’s much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where [the X-Men will appear] right now and more just the comfort factor and how nice it is that they’re home. That they’re all back. But it will be a very long time.”
If that is the case then Disney could actually opt to continue the Deadpool franchise in the meanwhile. We should get a Deadpool 3 or an X Force film since the contracts of all those actors that were involved are still in play. Until the mutants get introduced in the MCU, Disney could continue the R-Rated storyline since there’s certainly a market for Deadpool. He does work best in the R-Rated genre.
Deadpool 2 director David Leitch doesn’t really know the future of Dp, and he recently told Uproxx that we need to be patient. He said:
“I don’t [know], honestly. And it’s not for my lack of trying. And I also want to give – I’m just giving everybody their time. I know Marvel announced their slate and I think people were like, ‘Deadpool’s not on it.’ I would never say never. And I think, obviously, he’s such a beloved character and it’s such a compelling world people want to go back. And I think they will find a way to do it. But I’m just being patient and let everybody take a breath and see how it works for them in the new Marvel, Disney world. And, hopefully, I’ll get the call. And that would be cool.”
Our wish of seeing Deadpool and Logan in the MCU may take a while, but David Leitch certainly has ideas for how Deadpool could make his own way within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He continued:
“What’s great about Deadpool, like you kind of just said, you can put him in with any one of those characters, or an ensemble of those characters, and it just sort of magnifies what you’re doing. It adds another layer. So that’s probably one aspect that they are entertaining, and hopefully they are entertaining more ideas as well. And, honestly, I’m sure there are people who want it more than me, but it would be hard-pressed to find them. I love that world. I love working with Ryan. I love that character, Deadpool. So, fingers crossed we get to bring another installment to life.”
Hopefully, Deadpool will make his way into the MCU soon. If not that, then we wouldn’t even mind another Deadpool movie under the Fox banner. Till then, here’s the amazing slate that Marvel revealed at SDCC – Black Widow on May 1, 2020, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in Fall 2020, The Eternals on November 6, 2020, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on February 12, 2021, WandaVision in Spring 2021, Loki in Spring 2021, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 7, 2021, What If? In Summer 2021, Hawkeye in Fall 2021, and Thor: Love and Thunder on November 5, 2021.
