The Big Villain of Captain Marvel 2 Has Reportedly Been Revealed
Captain Marvel was the film which introduced us to the strongest hero of Marvel. But one could argue that the film wasn’t as great as many other MCU films. Since it earned the big bucks even after being a little over average origin story, just imagine the opportunity that the second film would have at its hands. Captain Marvel 2 could go all out at a big cosmic villain who’s probably even stronger than Thanos. But who exactly will it be?
From what makes sense till now, Captain Marvel 2 should be yet another MCU prequel that would bridge the gap between the first movie and Avengers: Endgame. There’s unfinished business between Carol, Ronan, Yon Rogg and the Kree planet. Moreover, the Skrulls have to be set up as the villains for the future, so Captain Marvel 2 should deal with all that. But from what we hear, it probably might not.
Reddit user TheMarvelScoopMaster has been verified by the Reddit moderators as someone within the industry with access to Marvel information. According to him, Captain Marvel 2 will feature a brand new cosmic villain who is will have a much larger presence in Phase 4. We obviously have to take the following information as a grain of salt until we get a confirmation from Marvel, but it could turn out to be true. So, TheMarvelScoopMaster says that Michael Korvac is being looked upon by Marvel, to be introduced as a physical threat to Carol Danvers.
For those uninitiated, the big name cosmic villain from the comics goes by “Korvac Saga.” He is a time-traveling half-human/half-futuristic computer, and has god-like matter altering abilities which were granted to him by The Power Cosmic. What’s interesting is that Korvac Saga actually has major ties to the likes of Galactus and Badoon in the comics. Now that Marvel will have access to all of the Fox properties, they could obviously use Korvac to lay down the foundation for Galactus.
If this turns out to be true, then Krovac may become the big cosmic villain of Phase 4 while the one from Earth would be Norman Osborn. It is all but confirmed that Osborn and Oscorp are coming to the MCU through Spider-Man: Far From Home, so these two villains could really wreak havoc in the next phase. We’d find out the future of the MCU only after Spider-Man: Far From Home hits the theatres. Disney recently revealed that Marvel will announce their next slate at D23 in August. Perhaps the title of the next Captain Marvel movie may confirm whether Korvac is involved or not.
Here’s what Kevin Feige had to say about the future films:
“The slate that we’re building over the next five years [is] not apples to apples. It is two very distinct things and I hope they’ll feel very distinct. But there is a similar mentality going into it, which is ‘How can we continue to tell stories with some of the characters that audiences already know and love in a unique way, in a different way, in surprising way, of which we have a lot of plans and ideas and work already going into it?’ [Then] ‘How can we introduce new characters that even hardcore fans, comic fans, have barely known or barely heard of.’ That’s really exciting too.
The two very distinct things obviously means movies set on Earth and in the cosmos. Projects like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Captain Marvel 2 and Nova could deal with the cosmic side while Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 will deal with Earth based problems. While an official slate is far away, here’s what the presumed slate of future films looks like:
May 1, 2020 (Black Widow)
November 6, 2020 (The Eternals)
February 12, 2021 (Black Panther 2 / Doctor Strange 2 / Shang Chi)
May 2, 2021 (Black Panther 2 / Doctor Strange 2)
November 5, 2021 (Doctor Strange 2 / Shang Chi)
February 18, 2022 (Captain Marvel 2)
May 6, 2022 (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3)
July 29, 2022 (Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 / Spider-Man 3).
Let’s see what Marvel brings onto the table.
