Avengers: Endgame won’t be done until it passes a week after it comes out on BluRay. Even then people are going to continue finding major references and plot points for the rest of the Marvel Universe and of course the ones that set the future. Apparently, Avengers: Endgame has been a gold mine for Easter Eggs and references and people have actually found 100s of them. There are probably over 400 Easter Eggs in this 3-hour long film.
Well, when there are so many of them, you just tend to be confused whether a particular moment is an Easter Egg or just a normal movie scene. But it’s plausible that most of you guys have caught this Secret Wars Easter Egg in the movie. As you can see in the image above, Hulk is holding up a massive rock in order to prevent the heroes that are stuck below the rock. Something like this happened in Avengers: Endgame as when Thanos from 2014 showed up to the future, he attacked the Avengers facility and it was the Hulk who prevented Rocket and Rhodey building by holding it up long enough for them to escape.
Now, this could have been a massive coincidence and people on the internet have been seeing either vouching for it, or denying it to be a Secret Wars Easter Egg. But our dilemma has been cleared as even though it was just 2 people that the Hulk saved, Joe Russo in his recent interview confirmed that this most definitely is a nod to the Secret Wars storyline. Well, there’s that, but what about the future of the MCU?
Last year the Russos did two things after the release of Infinity War. Anthony Russo said in an interview that he and his brother would love to tackle a Wolverine movie. But in an interview with Collider, the brothers said that they’d be going on a vacation after having directed 4 Marvel movies in the last 6 years. But the project that could bring them back down the line is Secret Wars.
Well, their work with the MCU has been totally loved by the fans! Their 4 films have fetched Marvel and Disney more than $6.5 Billion worldwide. Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame are fan favourites. So if they want to do a Secret Wars movie and Marvel wants it too, then it is going to happen!
Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything about it coming in the future, but we can imagine that it is going to be a slow build up towards that. Those who don’t know, Secret Wars and the Multiverse have a direct connection. The Earths of all the Universes combine as one and then we enter the Battle World. This storyline has tons of characters in it. There’s the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers and just everyone!
We could assume that Marvel would want to outdo the last 10 years of movies. They have to beat the Infinity Saga and Avengers: Endgame! So, what better way to do that than introducing us to Secret Wars. Obviously, we won’t have the likes of Captain America, Iron Man and Black Widow in this film, but the MCU would have grown so much by the time we reach this event.
Let’s do a headcount. As of now, we’ve got, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Wanda Vision, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Thor, Hulk, Valkyrie, Guardians of the Galaxy. They’re all going to continue in the future. But the likes of Namor, Nova, Adam Warlock, Black Knight, Captain Britain, Ms. Marvel, Spectrum, Shang Chi, VooDoo and a few others are said to join. Don’t forget the X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic Four & Silver Surfer. Then there are sure shot villains like Doctor Doom, Norman Osborn, Thunderbolts, the Dark Avengers and what not!
So, if Marvel does Secret Wars, we can imagine it to be a 3 or 4 part event as all of these characters cannot sustain in just 2 movies! Marvel’s future is bigger than we can imagine.
