Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 Creates History with Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5:

Writing this would be fun as we get to discredit the crap that has been given to us in the name of an “Epic Season.” It isn’t very appreciative of criticizing someone’s work especially when 2 years and Millions of Dollars have been spent on it. But we just have to talk about it if the product of this hard work is outright bad. It’s almost like HBO has deliberately done this in order to have their revenge upon the world for all the leaks and pirated viewings.

How do you spend 55 days into shooting a battle which is supposed to be the biggest battles in the history of Game of Thrones battles, but then don’t freakin’ show us the battle by covering it with Fog and Darkness! To take things ahead, you completely drop the ball with all the characters and story arcs that have been established over the last decade! Fans were pissed at The Long Night because not only could they not see anything but a villain that was being built for 7 years was killed off like it was nothing.

Jon Snow and the Night King didn’t actually have a face off! They were a 100 meters apart from each other. All we got from the Night King was a smile and then Arya came in outtanowhere and killed him easy-peasy. Sure the show is about killing and this was a cool twist, but at least make a villain do something before killing him off! At least pay off on the buildup of the past decade!

Now if you thought that this was bad, wait till you see “The Bells” because the latest episode of Game of Thrones was the absolute worst of all! Episode 4 sets things up with Dany V Cersei being a fair battle, and then Dany’s army which was said to be depleted completely obliterates the Lannister Army! If Drogon could destroy the entire Iron Fleet just like that then why did Dany run away from the fewer number of ships in the previous episode! The writing this season has been totally senseless!

That is why Game of Thrones S08E05 has received the worst ratings in the history of the entire show. This record was made by Episode 4, “The Last of Starks” which got a score of just 57%, but “The Bells” has landed with a score of 49% Rotten! Here’s what the general critical consensus says:

“Death, destruction, and the deterioration of Daenerys’ sanity make “The Bells” an episode for the ages; but too much plot in too little time muddles the plot and may leave some viewers feeling its conclusions are a little unearned.”

Dany’s turn to the Mad Queen was surely coming but how can rushing it like that bring any good twists? If you think about it in Game of Thrones time, it has been roughly 7 days since she arrived at Winterfell, fought the Great War and returned to obliterate Kings Landing.

Apparently just 7 days ago everyone was rooting for her, but within this span of time, everyone starts to betray her? How foolish is that? Yes she has lost her most trusted compadres and her closest of men betrayed her, but how can all that cause a strong-willed person like her to snap like that and become the freakin’ Mad Queen!

“A Targaryen alone in this world is not a good thing,” except she isn’t alone! A lonely person with so much power at his/her disposal could do wonders but how can Dany just forget about everything she’s been through and take such an emotional tormented stride forward? But Dany turning into the Mad Queen is not really bad because it was always on the cards. What’s bad is the way it was executed.

What’s even worse is how the rest of the character arcs. Apparently, Jaime’s entire redemption arc lasted just 4 days as he went to Winterfell in the previous season, fought the Great War, slept with Brienne and then just threw it all back in order to return to his sister! Come on! Was the S*x so bad? Okay jokes apart, the way his character dies just isn’t satisfying.

Now let’s come to the character that takes the prize for being the absolute worst part of this episode. Cersei Lannister was always going to lose. But there was no face off! Neither Dany, nor Arya came even a mile close to her. With the things that she had done over the years, we were all suspecting her death to be the most brutal part of all! And how does she die? By a bunch of Bricks and Mortar falling over her head while a saddening empathizing score plays in the back!

The creatives tried to make us sympathize with her so they could make Dany the real villain! How crazy is that. The writers chose such a lame way for her to die, that it almost feels like we’ve been robbed of what could have been a truly great ending to an epic saga. We were told that the end of this show is going to be sad, but the only emotion that we’ve really felt is rage! Certain people could have different opinions, but majority of people all around the world haven’t liked what’s been done with the final season. Not even the critics.

You know there’s something wrong when a bunch of bricks more characters than the freakin’ Night King! What’s crazy is that there has been a petition launched by the fans to actually revamp the entire season with competent writers. Well, it isn’t going to happen obviously but still given the fact that a petition like this exists and 1000s of people are signing it speaks volumes in itself.

Now, everyone feels that it would have been so much better if George RR Martin would have written his the last two books so we could have had the finale worthy of that. But that did not happen. Although there has been a claim made by Barristan Selmy actor Ian McElhinney which states that Martin has already finished both the books 6 (THE WINDS OF WINTER) and 7 (A DREAM OF SPRING) but had been holding them back until the show ends.

Here’s what McElhinney said:

“George has already written books six and seven, and as far as he’s concerned there are only seven books. But he struck an agreement with David and Dan, the showrunners on the series, that he would not publish the final two books until the series has completed. So if all goes well, in another month or two we might get Books 6 and 7, and I’m intrigued to know how Barristan, for instance, ends up going through those final two books. George, I talked to him during Season 1 and he did say to me that Barristan had a very interesting journey. But unfortunately, I didn’t get to play all of that, so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Game of Thrones Prequel Series Naomi Watts HBO

But this isn’t true at all as Martin has completely shot this rumor down. He said:

“No, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six. It seems absurd to me that I need to state this. The world is round, the Earth revolves around the sun, water is wet… do I need to say that too? It boggles me that anyone would believe this story, even for an instant. It makes not a whit of sense. Why would I sit for years on completed novels? Why would my publishers — not just here in the US, but all around the world — ever consent to this? They make millions and millions of dollars every time a new Ice & Fire book comes out, as do I.

Delaying makes no sense. Why would HBO want the books delayed? The books help create interest in the show, just as the show creates interest in the books. So… no, the books are not done. HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David & Dan. There is no ‘deal’ to hold back on the books. I assure you, HBO and David & Dan would both have been thrilled and delighted if THE WINDS OF WINTER had been delivered and published four or five years ago… and NO ONE would have been more delighted than me. I have no date. I’ve given up giving dates because I give one and then I miss it, and everybody gets mad. It’ll be done when it’s done. It’s been going very well lately so, knock wood.”

The finale is going to return Sunday, May 19. Let’s just hope that it could do some amount of damage control.
