Avengers: Endgame Directors Explain How the Very Important Snap Sets up MCU’s Future
Avengers: Endgame did a lot of things for the entire MCU. We got to see the closing of the first big story of the MCU, and now that a giant sequel story is being developed, Avengers: Endgame is going to play a huge rule in it. Apparently Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame showcased 3 snaps and those have to be the reason for many stories that are coming in. Time Travel could be a key element in defining for many upcoming stories but the snap would definitely play a big role in all of them.
We saw that an entirely different timeline was created at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer told us that one of the snaps actually burned a hole in the dimension of Earth-616. It caused this reality of the MCU to mingle with another reality which is different from 616. So, there’s the first pathway laid down by the snap. We were told that the MCU will completely change with what happens in Endgame and that is what we will be witnessing now.
Directors Joe & Anthony Russo talked to Slate recently and they told them how the future set up by the Snap is irrevocable. They said:
“Joe Russo – We’re owning it moving forward. And that’s a really crazy narrative decision to own, and it’s gonna make things really interesting, because the universe that these stories take place in is a really odd one.
Anthony Russo – Primarily what drove the choice was we wanted it to be far enough where our lead characters had reached a point of acceptance. They had to just accept it as their reality.”
With the Snap, these individuals who caused them took the laws of nature in their own hands. So what they did will obviously have certain ramifications in the future. Yes, half of the Universe has been restored but there is a cost attached to it. The ones who have survived will now be paying the price. It’s just gonna be as Baron Mordo warned Stephen Strange – “The Bill comes due. Always!”
Spider-Man: Far From Home is the final movie of Phase 3 because it will now tease the consequences of the Snap, and how the people of Earth will end up dealing with them. The Snap was the third biggest jaw-dropping event in the MCU. Right after the battle of New York, the first MCU defining event came with the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That was followed by the dissolution of Earth’s mightiest heroes in Captain America: Civil War, and then came the Snap!
So the Russos have given us big blows that came one after the other. The fun part about that is we’re actually grateful for what they did! Now there’s still time before Spider-Man: Far From Home could show us the consequences of the Snap, but for now we can just focus upon Avengers: Endgame itself.
Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Brolin, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tessa Thompson, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Tilda Swinton, Ava Russo and Brie Larson.
Here’s the synopsis of Avengers: Endgame:
“Thanos snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, and half the life in the universe instantly dissolved. Now a ragged group of surviving warriors, including Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk works to counteract the Mad Titan’s genocidal action.
Since our heroes couldn’t stop Thanos the first time, what makes them think they can win in a rematch? The answer may be in overwhelming power, thanks to Captain Marvel, or in the tiniest spaces between atoms accessible to Ant-Man. Avengers: Endgame will rewrite the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. When it’s all over, nothing will be the same.”
