Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere has to be the best opening for the show in all eight seasons. It was so fulfilling that it actually felt too short for us fans, who have been waiting for last 595 days to see the next episode. There was plenty of stuff hinted and revealed within this single episode that clocked around just 50 minutes.
We’ve already talked about the big moments in the show like Jon finding out about his true lineage, his reaction to it all, and him getting to ride Rhaegal. Now we need to get into the cliffhanger that was left right at the end of the episode as a mystery hooded personality arrives in Winterfell, and it turns out to be Jaime Lannister, who has arrived to join the troops led by Dany. But before we get to that, we are left with Jaime’s reaction looking at the first person in Winterfell to be none other than Brandon Stark.
This episode just got all the expressions of certain characters spot on, and the look on Jaime’s face was so priceless that people actually didn’t stop to realize that how exactly are these blonde Lannister brothers turning into freakin’ brunettes?
Both Jaime and Tyrion have gone from Gold to almost black on their hair! Well let’s talk about that later, as the current matter at our hands is what exactly would happen with Jaime from here on. The promo of the next episode has provided us with the answer:
It starts with Jaime standing trial not just for pushing Bran out of the window (probably not at all for that), but for an even bigger crime that he committed, i.e. slaying the Targaryen King. But this isn’t the only matter that is teased in the new teaser as it picks up the banter between Dany and Sansa again, and establishes Cersi as the glorified all-star b*tch yet again!
But things get crazy towards the end as Tormund arrives to Winterfell with the message of the Night King and War is upon them in no time. Because of the fact that the Great War has arrived so soon, Jon probably might not even tell Dany about him being the king. This teaser seems to be setting up the war for the third episode which has to be fully devoted to it.
Considering the fact that the Night King will probably lay waste to Winterfell, Jon may not even have to tell Dany about his true lineage she could very well turn into the Night Queen that people have been suspecting her to. Get your tissues and prepare yourself for the next 2 weeks because we are going to face some major deaths.
All the secondary characters like Tormund, Sandor Clegane, Jorah Mormont, Gendry, Beric Dondarian, and even the likes of Jaime & Dany could be killed off and turned into white walkers. We just have to be prepared for that because it could be coming sooner than we expected.
This season is going to be full of epic moments, but it will also be a massively emotional ride. Here’s what Kit Harrington had to say about it:
“The last season of Thrones seemed to be designed to break us. Everyone was broken at the end. I don’t know if we were crying because we were sad it was ending or if we were crying because it was so fucking tiring. We were sleep deprived. It was like it was designed to make you think, Right, I’m fucking sick of this. I remember everyone walking around towards the end going, ‘I’ve had enough now. I love this, it’s been the best thing in my life, I’ll miss it one day – but I’m done.’”
This season will bring about the end of this storyline, and Director David Nutter did mention that he was completely satisfied with the way that the show comes to an end:
I’m completely satisfied with how season 8 ends. I think that [the showrunners] did a tremendous job, and they took into consideration what the fans want, as well as what is right as far as storytelling is concerned. I guarantee there’s going to be lots of surprises and shocking moments, but it’s really very compelling stuff.”
The next episode will premiere next Sunday, April 21.
