With the current iteration of the Justice League facing enormous flak at the Box Office when it was released on the big screens, DC Comics has decided to give the green signal to Warner Bros. to use a different set of superheroes for live action adaptation. Warner Bros. Studios now intend to use the superheroes that were the stalwart guardians of the DC Comic book universe during the Golden Age of comic books, an era where the 21st Century superheroes were yet to make their mark. From that time period, Warner Brothers Studios have chosen their next champion that will be featuring in his own origin story.
This Fore-runner hero is still a heavyweight in the current roster of DC Superheroes and has managed to stick around even after such a long time, a feat that cannot be taken lightly. Moreover, this guy just so happens to be the strongest mage/sorcerer of the DC Universe and is almost always involved in the frontlines when it comes to protecting the planet from supernatural threats. Presenting – WB Studios latest movie project is about Doctor Fate – DC’s most powerful magician!!
We already know for sure now that the DC Extended Universe is experimenting with the Justice Society of America, a precursor to the Justice League in DC Comics. The Golden Age Superhero team is rumored to be in the pipeline for a live-action adaptation after the Justice League, featuring Superman, Batman, Cyborg, the Flash, Wonder Woman and Aquaman in lead roles, failed to take off and push the DCEU into new heights of superhero extravaganza.
Reportedly, the DCEU is also planning solo movies on the Golden Age superheroes from the same team. They will be making a movie on Doctor Fate, the DC Comic book universe’s legendary magician. The Studio is supposedly on the lookout for an actor between the age of 30 and 40 and looks the part as well. But some other reports claim that Warner Bros. is planning to cast a person of color this time, so as to maintain the diversity quota.
Doctor Fate is not one single superhero. It is a mantle that has been passed down from one guy to another. To become Doctor Fate, a person needs to wear the mystical Helmet of Nabu, an artifact that lets the spirit of Nabu, the world’s strongest warlock and sorcerer, to possess the person. The guy who popularized Doctor Fate in the Golden Age of comic books was the Archaeologist Kent Nelson.
But given the fact that there are too many rumors about DC looking for a person of color to play the role this time, our best guess is that the character that would be roped on to feature as the magical guardian is none other than Khalid Nassour, the Egyptian-American Student who served for a brief but memorable time as Doctor Fate in the comic books for the year of 2015.
The movie is supposedly set in two time periods, with the first half set in the past and the second half set in the present. So, there might be a possibility that both Nassour and Nelson would play the role of Doctor Fate. For now, everything we say is just as good as anybody’s guess. We will have to wait for more news that could be substantiated by official sources. Until then, hold on to your horses. Doctor Fate may still be far away but another magic based superhero is coming to the big screens pretty soon.
The last movie to be featured under the DCEU banner was Aquaman. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people — and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm’s half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.
