2020 is very far away and but no one said that we cannot talk about the films that Marvel is launching in the next year. We are very close to a new beginning in the MCU as Avengers: Endgame is about to End ‘The Infinity Saga.’ Spider-Man: Far From Home will begin a new era but before we get to see any more movies extending the future of the MCU, the next year will take us to a tour of the past. Black Widow is going to be a Captain Marvel like MCU prequel, but The Eternals will be the ultimate prequel taking us into a story that unfolded a millennia ago.
The movie is currently under development as Director Chloe Zhao and the writing duo of brothers Matthew and Ryan Firpo are working upon the film. It is said to go under production by August and bring in yet another colorful unique looking aesthetic of Jack Kirby onto the big screen. It is fair to say that we are totally unaware of what’s going to happen in this film.
Here’s what Kevin Feige had to say about what The Eternals as a film could bring to the table while talking to Bionic Buzz:
“You’re reaction about not being familiar with the Eternals is perfect, because most people weren’t familiar with Guardians [of the Galaxy] and believe it or not there were people that were not familiar with Avengers or with Iron Man. So for us, its finding great stories whether people have heard of them or not and bring them to the big screen in as amazing a way as we can.”
He then talked to Collider recently and teased the fact that The Eternals will be a project that will expand cosmic boundaries of the MCU in ways we cannot imagine yet. Here’s what he said:
“Eternals are one group, but we like the idea of introducing an ensemble, doing an ensemble movie from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers. More like Guardians, not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people.
You were asking about ’60s, and ’70s before. Jack Kirby did an immense, amazing epic with Eternals that spans tens of thousands of years, and that’s also something we haven’t really done, which is why that among many other things post-Endgame, we find appealing.”
So far from what we’ve heard, Ikaris and Sersi are said to be the ones who will lead this Ensemble cast. But according to a new rumor started by That Hashtag Show and supported by MCU Cosmic, the Greek God Hercules is supposed to make his MCU debut in this film and he will also be one of the main characters. We’d ask for nothing more than that as that allows us to imagine a future involving Thor and Hercules in one single frame.
There’s not much to say upon this for now, but we’d certainly know more in the upcoming future. What we know right now is that Angelina Jolie is the first actor to have joined the cast of this film and she would play a very fitting Sersi, if that’s what Marvel is planning. Other than that, Marvel is probably looking to add their first ever openly Gay actor as the lead. So let’s see who that will be.
The Eternals will supposedly come out on November 6, 2020. Here’s the synopsis running around the internet:
“The story of ‘THE ETERNALS’ is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered individuals as well as more villainous off-shoots known as Deviants. The two groups went on to battle each other throughout history to see which would eventually become the ultimate race. The story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.”
