Avengers: Endgame –
With Infinity War, the entire Avengers pantheon was reduced to a handful of superheroes, in which most of them were just the founding members from the first Avengers movie back in 2012. This was not a coincidence. Marvel did not fluke it when they made the founding Avengers stay intact as they watched the other heroes wither and die after turning into dust.
Unfortunately, the ten-year contract that most of the popular superheroes like Captain America played by Chris Evans and Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Junior is ending! Their contracts are about to end with Avengers: Endgame. And we bring more bad news for the Marvel fans! Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, is leaving. He will soon be replaced by another actor who will play the God of Thunder in the MCU.
Chris Hemsworth has played the character so many times on the Big Screen that the name Thor Odinson is now synonymous with his name. But like all good things, his tenure as Thor must also come to an end. After playing the character more than half a dozen times in the MCU, the internet claims it is time for the guy to pass on the Mjolnir to someone else. There have been multiple versions of Thor in the comic books. One of them could be adapted to for playing the Thunder God from Norse mythology in the Marvel movies.
The comics have revealed to us a long time ago that it is not heritage or parentage that makes you Thor. To wield the power of calling upon and controlling storms and lightning, you need to fit a certain criterion. In Marvel Comics, whoever is deemed worthy by Mjolnir will wield the power of Thor. Mjolnir has an enchantment on it that allows it to scan the whole world and find out who will be the next guy worthy enough of being the next Thor.
The movies could also use the same logic to choose the next God of Thunder. But the hammer is destroyed by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. But there is one thing we are all forgetting. Thor is not the wielder of Mjolnir now. He is the wielder of another, equally magnificent weapon that in the comics actually belongs to someone else.
We still do not know who the other actor is but at least we know that they will not be choosing Thor Odinson for the portrayal. The next Thor in line in the MCU could be none other than Beta Ray Bill, the same guy who becomes Thor after he impresses both Thor and Odin with his valour and sense of honour in the comics.
Beta Ray Bill has already appeared or at least his face did, in Thor: Ragnarok where his face was one of the many arena champions’ that adorned the Grandmaster’s towers on Sakaar. We know he already exists in the MCU and the stage is pretty much set for him to take over Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. The question is – can we be strong enough to let him go??
Avengers: Endgame is set for release on the 26th of April, 2019. The official film synopsis of the movie has been recently released and it states:
“After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.”
