Why Star Wars: Episode 9 Can Never Out-Perform Avengers: Endgame in The Box Office
Avengers: Endgame –
2018 was the year of superheroes. It gave us a lot of blockbuster movies – Avengers: Infinity War, Venom, Aquaman, Black Panther, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse are some that come to mind. Will 2019 be able to top its predecessor? Looks like it!! 2019 will give us fewer movies when it comes to the action blockbuster genre but they would be a range of movies that could be considered the most anticipated Hollywood productions for the whole decade.
Disney is at the top of that race, with its two major Blockbuster productions – Star Wars: Episode 9 of Lucas Film and Avengers: Endgame of Marvel Studios. Both the movies have an extremely huge and loyal fan base and are in more ways than one, a farewell to a legacy within their own universes. So the question that now arises is that – who will win the Box Office race between these two movie behemoths? And the general consensus is something many fans would find hard to believe. Presenting – Why Star Wars: Episode 9 can never out-perform Avengers: Endgame in the Box Office!!
Star Wars started about half a century ago. The first Star Wars movie has a legendary status in the movie-making industry. It was the first movie to bust the myth that high expenditure sci-fi flicks are not profitable enough in the industry. The movie gave birth to a slew of Star Wars ventures that were equally successful.
The latest to enter that pantheon were The Last Jedi trilogy movies and the recent spin-off projects – Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While one was a disappointment, the other was extremely ground-breaking work and earned Disney a lot of bucks. So it is not like the franchise is deadbeat.
So, the fight of the franchise giants rages on. Who will win? According to Forbes writer Scott Mendelson, the answer is pretty obvious. It has to be Avengers: Endgame that beats the Star Wars contender this year. And why is that? Mendelson makes his argument clearer by pointing out that fact that Star Wars’ latest mainstream movie – Star Wars: The Last Jedi had been a point of massive controversy with the way the movie portrayed Luke Skywalker on screen.
While Marvel kept making millions and billions of dollars with each project, Star Wars not only divided the fans with The Last Jedi but also met with brutal criticism with Solo: A Star Wars Story, a Box Office disappointment, something we had never hoped the Star Wars universe could ever face. So the fans are angry with the Star Wars universe but they could not be happier when it comes to the MCU. Not to mention the Box Office numbers of Star Wars movies, which when compared with Marvel movies, are comparatively lesser.
The Winner, according to Mendelson, has to be Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame.
The last Star Wars movie to be released was Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has already witnessed its Blu-Ray/DVD Blu-Ray release. The official film synopsis of the movie reads:
Luke Skywalker’s peaceful and solitary existence gets upended when he encounters Rey, a young woman who shows strong signs of the Force. Her desire to learn the ways of the Jedi forces Luke to make a decision that changes their lives forever. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren and General Hux lead the First Order in an all-out assault against Leia and the Resistance for supremacy of the galaxy.
The last Avengers movie to be released under the MCU banner was Avengers: Infinity War. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artefacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
