Hobbs & Shaw Brings The Debut of The Big Dog Roman Reigns

The upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw keeps getting more and more exciting every day with new reports coming in directly from the sets. Yesterday Vin Diesel announced a female spin-off being green lit in the Fast and Furious Universe, and that would be the second spin-off coming in play with a third one yet to be announced. All this actually happened because of Hobbs & Shaw getting the push ahead of the core fast franchise.

The Rock has been pretty vocal about his upcoming big project of this year and this film really is dear to his heart. As we all know, he is the prime example of getting big in Hollywood after having a strong wrestling career. Now John Cena is following the road map that he drew.

Many other pro wrestlers tried doing that. We had Stone Cold Steve Austin give it a shot, then there’s Randy Orton. The Miz who is called Mr. Hollywood apparently for no reason has tried and miserably failed. But you’d think that the Rock will pull his family into the big success that Hollywood gives you ahead of WWE.

There’s someone who roars and claims himself to be the Big Dog of WWE. Well he’s been out of the Ring suffering(?) from Leukemia, but now we see the Samoan Cousin of the Rock make his Hollywood debut standing tall with him in the upcoming Hobbs & Shaw. Dwayne Johnson has made his announcement in his typical style. Have a look:

Well, I am happy for him making this big debut and I could see him follow the lead of his cousin as he does have it in him. But looking at this image, now the world knows why he wears the big chunky looking armor into the WWE ring. The Big Dog has come to make Hollywood his yard, but we don’t really know whether this is a one off thing, or does he actually plan to have a career in Hollywood (‘cause that’s where the real money is!).

Thinking about Reigns’ appearance in the upcoming film, there’s a little something that comes to my mind. Check out the video above to see Roman Reigns calling John Cena the biggest Hypocrite to ever step into the WWE ring. Well, who’s the hypocrite now? That was a future movie star dissing a new movie star for dissing his cousin who actually is the biggest movie star to have ever been in the WWE ring.

All this may be a little confusing as I was a little confused writing it as well! But to summarize it, what I’m saying is that this is how things work. WWE launches new faces and Hollywood makes them big personalities.

Roman Reigns’ casting in Hobbs and Shaw lines up with the character breakdowns that were made for this film. The descriptions read:

“The studio is on the search for a Polynesian actress, 70-75, to play Sofia Hobbs, described as the “matriarch” of the Hobbs family and five Polynesian men, all 30-50, to portray Hobbs’s brothers: Jonah, Cal, Tim, Matt and Alex.”

Now it would be interesting to see the rest of the brothers in the Hobbs family. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham together can pull masses into the theatres, and it’s going to be a whole new story when they are going to kick a lot of butts. Apart from these two, there’s the big villain played by Idris Elba.

Johnson has already been praising what Elba is doing in this film and looking at the photos that are being shared, things do seem to be pretty exciting. Along with them, there’s Vanessa Kirby who’s playing Hattie Shaw, an MI 6 Agent. We could expect the return of Helen Mirren and Luke Evans to complete the Shaw family.

But to top everything, Universal has hired an action movie director who literally is the best in business as of now. David Leitch directed the first John Wick movie, then there was the Charlize Theron starrer Atomic Blonde, and to follow that we got Deadpool 2 last year. All these films had some hardcore R-Rated action. Now this will surely be a PG 13 movie, but just imagine what this director could do when he has the Rock and Jason Statham at his disposal.

Hobbs and Shaw will hit the theatres on August 2, 2019.
