But, recently on the internet, it has been revealed that there were different plans regarding the release of the final season as it has been revealed by showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that they planned to give the final season to the fans of Game of Thrones in a very different way as they revealed that they were also interested in changing the medium also because there were plans that the final season will be converted into a series of films which are what the fans of this great series deserve.

Benioff stated that at the starting of the series they had a budget of nearly $5 million in order to make a single episode of the series. He added,

“We have a very generous budget from HBO, but we know what’s coming down the line and, ultimately, it’s not generous enough.”

But, we all know that what’s coming in front of us is a huge battle that fans surely haven’t seen yet. This is the sole reason why Weiss and Benioff thought about bringing the idea of shifting Game of Thrones Season 8 in a ‘three movie set’ for the fans and lovers of the show.

That way, fans could have gotten a little more of the series and also on the big screen which would have eventually lead to an increase in the popularity of the series even more and also the revenue it’ll earn would have been huge.

But, the idea of shifting the series to the big-screens was like a childish decision in the mind of the people at HBO and they didn’t say anything about this idea and slowly and steadily this idea sadly went into a dustbin. This move from HBO clearly states that they don’t want to take a risk right at the end when their finale season is going to come as it’s really hard to predict the success and failure of a film at the box-office.

Also, they don’t want to disturb the audience they’ve made and embraced for all these years because it’s their last show and a lot of memories are in there with this show and as a result of that HBO doesn’t want to break the connection they have made on HBO with these fans by the medium of this series.

But, now as we all know that the Game of Thrones Season 8, the last one is going to come on HBO and is going to be little shorter than the normal ones as it’s going to be a six-episodes season and there have been rumors that the filming of the show has already begun in October and is going to be finished by the end of July 2018.

The executive producer of the show Bryan Cogman also teased the fans about the story of the eighth season. He said,

“It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death. It’s an incredibly emotional, haunting, bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what author George RR Martin set out to do – which is flipping this kind of story on its head.”
