The hype and success of the Superhero movies have reached a level where even some of the finest and most popular stars of the industry don’t hesitate to be part of these movies. We have seen many great stars like Jeremy Irons and Robert Redford and also many award-winning stars like Michael Douglas and Viola Davis.
The success MCU has had in all these years is the real reason for all this interest of great stars in superhero movies while the time isn’t too much behind when no big star will consider superhero movies a good option to act in.
We all know that superheroes movies are very successful these days and with examples of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans reignite their careers and also making a huge fan base of their own are some examples of how big this genre is getting with each day passing.
But, every good thing in this world has a bad thing about it and in this case there are many stars who regret being part of superhero movies and when it comes down to the world of DC, we see that things are a lot worse than the Marvel because of the success and popularity MCU has had in all these years. So, today we are going to have a look at the stars who regret being part of DC movies.
1. Ryan Reynolds:
Ryan Reynolds never misses a chance in order to make fun of his own movie ‘Green Lantern’ as he has quoted many times in the past that he surely has many experiences with superheroes movies as he has been part of Blade: Trinity and also of R.I.P.D.
But it was Green Lantern which was a shocker for him and he also said that the only good thing about this movie is that on the sets of this movie he met a girl who is his wife now and is the only happy thing about this movie and he has also never seen the whole movie. Now, we all know him for portraying the role of Deadpool.
2. Josh Brolin:
He has been part of many comic book movies with movies like Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Men in Black 2, Deadpool 2, and Avengers. He has been part of many great movies but there’s one particular role for which he has a big regret inside his heart and this is for the role of Jonah Hex who is an anti-hero of DC Comics.
The inspirational thing is that it was his first attempt and despite getting such a bad start he didn’t stop himself from trying for bigger roles. He also expressed his regret by stating about the movie that he simply ‘hated it’.
3. Sean Connery:
He was simply incredible from James Bond movies to The Untouchables but it was the movie League of Extraordinary Gentleman which came as a disaster and till this date he really regrets doing this movie which was based on DC Comics.
He also said that working in this movie was simply a ‘nightmare’ for him. He also said that the director of the movie Stephen Norrington was insane and he realized it on the first day of the shooting and was fed up with dealing idiotic people on the sets of the movie and since then he never returned to DC again.
4. Tommy Lee Jones:
We all know how great actor Tommy Lee Jones is in terms of an actor and also the reputation he holds in the industry but it was his role in the movie Batman Forever which is one of the regrets of his life.
As in the movie he portrayed the role of ‘Two-Face’ and it was simply a disastrous character in the movie because only one side of the character was shown in the movie correctly and even during the times of shooting of the film there were reports that he isn’t too much happy with his role in the movie.
He also discussed his displeasure in doing this role. It was revealed by Jim Carrey that Jones hated him as he was the bigger star than him at that time.
5. Matthew Goode:
It’s really hard to find any loophole in the casting of the movie Watchmen but it was the casting of Matthew Goode for the role of Ozymandias which fans hated the most. Also, Goode has said that he agrees with the hate of fans towards his signing for the movie because while at the time of signing for the movie even he wasn’t sure about doing this role.
This, clearly suggests that signing him for a role like this in a movie like this was a huge gamble and it’s hard to understand and find and positive around this one.
6. Shaquille O’Neal:
We all know that O’Neal was a phenomenal basketball star in the world at that time but it was his interest in acting which pushed him towards trying his hand in movies. In the movie, Steel, he portrayed the character of John Henry who we all know is an amazing weaponry engineer of his time.
It was his costume which is still regarded as one of the most bizarre and ugly costumes ever made in the history of superheroes movie. The debut of Shaquille came with the worst start of a career and he never returned back to the field of acting again as a result of that.
7. Jared Leto:
It’s hard to figure out what is going on in the mind of Jared Leto as during the shooting of Suicide Squad, many actors weren’t happy with the activities Leto has done on the sets as he went into method acting for this role but later admitted that he wasn’t happy with his role in the movie.
He revealed that the reason he wasn’t happy doing this movie is that at the time of shooting hey did shot some amazing sequences but weren’t there in movie’s second half and has also said that he was mad after realizing his scenes has been cut and wasn’t mad enough to sign back for them.
8. George Clooney:
George Clooney is one of the stars who has expressed their anger for doing a DC movie by stating that his decision of doing the fourth movie of Batman with the title Batman & Robin, in which he played the role of Batman.
He has also said that he has kept one of his photos in the Batman costume form this movie in order to make himself realizes that how bad can things go in life. He has also expressed that he was really bad in this movie but also said that it was a movie in which it was hard for anyone to make a good thing out of it.
9. Marlon Brando:
I think in this case the actor didn’t do proper justice with his role in the movie Superman because he doesn’t seem to care about his reputation as he has already made some name for himself. There was a time when he refused to memorize his lines also as he didn’t show any kind of interest and dedication for this role.
Also, Christopher Reeve has revealed that Brando wasn’t interested in working for this movie. There has been a big fight between the makers of the film and Brando and also claims that he took $2 million and then went off.
10. Richard Pryor:
The only reason Richard Pryor took this role in his hands was the reason that he wanted a lot of money for himself from the makers because he wasn’t interested in the role or character.
In his autobiography also he has clearly stated that all he wanted at that time was the amount of money which was a whopping $5 million in his hands and didn’t like the script of the movie. Still, to this date whenever we see this movie all the bad and weird scenes started coming into our minds and in-between all of this the only thing Pryor cared about was money.
11. Michael Shannon:
Michael Shannon is one of those actors who have several Academy Award nominations to his name. He is similar to Richard Pryor who went for the money and didn’t care or know anything about the movie and also have no interest in doing the role.
When people asked about his role as General Zod in the movie, he replied with the statement that, “profoundly unconcerned with the outcome of that fight”, on asking about the fight he and Zod appeared in the movie.
12. Van Kilmer:
Van Kilmer signing for doing the role of Batman in the movie Batman Forever under the direction of Joel Schumacher and it became a really messy affair on the set of the movie when Schumacher told Kilmer to respect everyone and the actor responded to his request by being silent on the set with everyone for almost two weeks.
With each day passing of the movie on the sets, he wasn’t happy with their idea of making the movie for general audiences instead of fans of Batman. So, when the fourth installment came in he wasted no time in stepping out of the role and George Clooney was the one who took on this.
13. Christopher Reeve:
The movie Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is the movie who wasn’t appreciated by the critics in comparison to its previous versions. One of the biggest reasons for his failure was that the budget of the movie was cut down to half and because of which the movie suffered a lot as visual effects of the movie went drastically bad.
The movie consists of some very bad scenes as in one of the scenes we saw that Reeve is roasting a small duck with the help of his laser vision. In an interview also he expressed his regret of doing this film as he tried his best in order to make the film a great one but failed because all the powers were in the hands of the makers of the film and have said that he will never ever reprise the role.
14. Halle Berry:
Arguably, one of the most famous regrets on the list was of Halle Berry as she was the first African-American woman who won the Oscar for Best Actress in a leading role for his amazing work in the movie Monster’s Ball in 2002. The actress was on top of the world and everyone was at her doorstep to get the sign of this actress.
But, after two years she signed for the movie Catwoman after her great success in the role of Storm in the X-Men movies, but the optimism reversed back as the movie was a huge flop and she was also called by many as the worst actress of that year. Also, Halle Berry quoted his decision of doing that movie by saying that the movie was this…God-Awful movie.
15. Christian Bale:
Yes, it’s true and will be a big surprise to many Batman fans but yes it’s true that despite being tipped as one of the most popular and famous Batman in the rich history of Batman’s role, Christian Bale is the one who took the role to another level.
The regret he has with the movie is that he thought he’ll accomplish a lot of things with this movie as in an interview with the Yahoo! Bale has said that he couldn’t be able to portray the darkness and loneliness of the character in the movies and will never do this role again because he doesn’t have anything left in himself to offer while doing the role of Batman in the movies.
