It’s impossible to find a person on this planet who doesn’t know who ‘James Bond’ is; such is the level of his popularity, stardom, and fan base. The camp of James Bond franchise was shaken when Danny Boyle left the legendary character but they found a fantastic actor in Daniel Craig who is filling the shoes left by Boyle in the most satisfying manner. But reports of Daniel Craig going to leave the franchise after the last adventure in Bond 25 as the famous spy are doing the rounds and the movie is going to be directed by Cary Fukunaga. It will release sometime in February 2020. The role of James Bond has been connected with a lot of famous celebrities like Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Orlando Bloom, and Tom Hardy. But, it’s Tom Hiddleston who is leading the line from nowhere.
Tom Hiddleston is still one of the most popular actors of all-time and has also pumped-up his fan base a lot after doing the role of ‘Loki: God of Mischief’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for so many years. According to Express, the actor is currently running on the top spot in the list of actors who can play the character of James Bond, his odds have gone from 8-1 to 4-5.
Overtaking tremendous actors in his run to the top with actors like Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba. The actor has a lot of acting talent in him as he has done some tremendous roles in recent years and has won Laurence Oliver Award for Best Newcomer in a Play for his role in Cymbeline and was nominated for the same award for his role as Cassio in Othello.
The odds of other actors linked with a role in this picture are as follows with Elba and Hardy sitting on the same position with 5-1 and having Aidan Turner and James Norton with odds of 10-1. So, we can see clearly that the owners of the James Bond franchise are clearly thinking of going with Hiddlestone.
The franchise is one of the most popular and greatest franchises in cinema’s rich history. The franchise has grossed an amount of over $7 billion to date, the films produced by Eon Constitute the fourth-highest grossing film series and there have been six actors down the line in all these years that have portrayed the 007 in the Eon series, and the latest of them all is Daniel Craig.
Despite, Henry Cavill’s open comments about the feeling he has for the role of James Bond and how much this role fantasizes him. As the actor said in an interview with Yahoo UK,
“I would love to do it of course, I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well. It would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on Mission: Impossible and carry it through to a movie like Bond and that if they were to ask I would say ‘yes.’”
But, it seems like the company seems to move their path from the way of Cavill is heading towards Hiddlestone, who is more famous and beloved by the Marvel fan base and also form the cinema lovers because of his tremendous performances in other films.
Also, the day when Bond’s longtime producer Barbara Broccoli expressed her views on the possibilities of having a lady in the role of Bond by saying,
“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male. And that’s fine,” Broccoli explained. “We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”
She has expressed his views on the most controversial debate about this franchise and that’s the portrayal of women in the movie and the producer has said some serious and clear words in the context of this topic. He said,
“Look at the way the world has changed. And I think Bond has come through and transformed with the times. I’ve tried to do my part, and I think particularly with the Daniel Craig films, they’ve become much more current in terms of the way women are viewed.”
