Avengers: Endgame – Why Captain America Did Not Hand Over The [Spoiler] to Bucky

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Avengers finally took a sigh of relief. The only job now left to do was to return the Infinity Stones back where the Avengers found them, at the exact point of time where they were taken out of continuity to make sure that the timeline and events leading up to Avengers: Endgame do not change and the realities are not drastically different or if the final plot twist of Endgame is to be believed, not different at all.

Avengers: Endgame Bucky Barnes Captain America

Given all the recent developments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is readily apparent that Disney wants to shift the minor characters into a safer environment like that of the exclusive Disney+ platform. Maybe that is the reason why we see Captain America aka Steve Rogers hand down his iconic shield to Falcon. Maybe this is the trigger that will start off the Disney+ series and this was CAP passing on the baton the most real sense possible.

Avengers: Endgame Bucky Barnes Captain America

Regardless of the actual situation, you have to admit that the final sequence of Endgame relating to Captain America was a bit absurd, to say the least. Not only did we get driven back by non-immersive plot but we were also left with more questions than answers and that is never good for a time travel movie. The fandom was largely upset by the fact that the Captain America lost in time plot point was not given full and proper closure. After watching the final scene of Endgame, one would think that the Marvel execs simply went,” we should have an old Steve appear there out of nowhere” and everyone else in the meeting just went “WHAT A GREAT IDEA”

But the fandom has a wild different opinion about the situation. Not only an old Captain America without any foreshadowing or proper lore is an example of lazy writing but it is also a very convenient way to completely knock Steve Rogers out of action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But u/dv8mad has a different theory on the subject, one that he has been kind enough to post on r/Fantheories. The post has been reproduced below for your scrutiny, take a gander and see if you find his explanation worthwhile:-

[SPOILERS] Captain America Endgame theories from FanTheories

The user proposes a completely wild scenario so far off a tangent from the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and so wildly speculative that while questioning it’s absurdity you realize just how feasible it might be. It is rather a sad state of affairs to look at the lazy writing of Endgame only to determine that it must be saved by such an absurd theory.

The Reddit user suggests that although we have received absolutely no shred of tantalizing foreshadowing in 10 years but we must accept that Steve Rogers has lived a long life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe barely making contact with maybe Bucky here and there and working in the shadows up until the moment that his younger self travels back in time to return the infinity stones.

Avengers: Endgame Bucky Barnes Captain America

The old Captain America saw the New York battle and all the other miseries that befell the world after the events of Captain America, the first Avenger up until Avengers: Endgame and chose to remain quite and docile so that he does not affect the flow of time. Maybe all of this is pure conjecture and maybe some of it rings true to the actual concept that Marvel Studios came up with. We have no idea but we cannot wait to figure out. If only Marvel pursues this any of the future movies. Without any concrete evidence, this theory is just that, a theory posted on the forums of the interwebs.

Although lucrative and fun to look at this theory ultimately breaks down when to begin to assess the Captain’s mentality and see how he would have acted in times of great peril. Captain America is not a man who can just stand idly by and let the world burn when he has the capability to prevent death and destruction. Who knows what kind of ripple effects that would create? What do you think? Does the theory make sense or does it seem completely preposterous? Do tell us your opinion in the comments section below. And keep watching this space for everything Marvel.
