Captain Marvel Theory: Here’s How Nick Fury Will Lose His Eye

The big focus of the fans is currently upon Marvel’s first female-led movie, Captain Marvel which is the first of the 3 to come out next year. September has been huge for the project and the Marvel fans who were desperately waiting for something to be revealed from the film. Not only did they get the first look at almost everyone from the film, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly but they also got the debut trailer for the film, and boy was it huge! The hype of Captain Marvel was proven by the number of views the trailer got within 24 hours. 109 Million Fans saw the trailer within the first day of its release!

Captain Marvel Theory Nick Fury

Avengers: Infinity War created a massive record by having a viewership number of 187 Million fans, but for Captain Marvel, this is a huge deal because it is a character that no one was aware of, as they were with the Avengers. The trailer began with Nick Fury narrating the story of a hero, a renegade soldier who came from above and completely changed his life from there on.

Fury reveals that he was almost about to hang it up just until he met Danvers. As it was apparent from the trailer that Fury is going to be a sort of desk agent at SHIELD in this era, and he does not have that big of a hands-on approach in the 90s. Uncle Sam talked to EW about Fury’s story arc in the film and he said:

“This is a mind-changing, attitude-changing moment for him that leads him to become the person that we know. He [now] understands that there are these other things out there. He understands that they’re not all enemies, and we do need to find allies who have specific kinds of skills that humans don’t have. And trying to convince people above him is a difficult task because they haven’t seen it or experienced it.”

Until the arrival of Captain Marvel, everything was fine, or as you can say, everything was boring on Earth. Her entry from the skies marks a big change for the people of Earth, and apparently Nick Fury as well. This will surely be the film that shows us the big incident where Nick Fury loses his eye. Now, the theorists can get a big moment here deducing how that is going to happen.

EW revealed the villainous role that Ben Mendelsohn will be seen playing in the movie. He will be seen as the leader of the Skulls named Talos who is known as “Talos the Untamed,” because of his ruthless nature as a warrior and he will be leading the shape-shifting alien race to invade Earth. Talos is different from the rest of the Skrulls as along with his ferocity, he does not actually have the ability to shape-shift which led to him becoming a fierce leader that everyone is afraid of. But it seems that the MCU version of Talos will have this difference as we can see in the image below that Mendelsohn is in human form hiding in plain sight with the two Directors of the film.

So a theory given by Screen Rant suggests that Talos will probably be the one who Fury answers to in this film. As we have seen over the years that Nick Fury has big trust issues and that we could imagine is due to the fact that he was betrayed by someone very close, by someone he respects. So, that someone could easily be Talos who actually turns out to be a Skrull hiding in plain sight, being one among the top rank officials.

Talos may be the high-level clearance Agent of SHIELD, while Fury may be the one to work under him, probably as his right-hand man. But as the movie runs its course, he could find out the fact that his boss, the person whom he trusted for such a long time is actually a damn shape-shifting skrull. That could lead to a specific encounter between him and Talos. It could tie into the theory of Jude Law’s Mar-Vell also being the villain in the film as towards the end, Captain Marvel could go up against Mar-Vell, while Fury settles his beef with Talos with the involvement of Phil Coulson. And that particular fight is where Fury would lose his eye!

Captain Marvel comes out on March 8, 2019.
