Captain Marvel: Here’s How Fury & Coulson Will Meet For The First Time

Marvel is finally bringing us their first ever female-led Superhero movie and we can already be confident and say that it is going to be remarkable! With the recent reveal of the film brought to us by Entertainment Weekly, the entire world gave in to what Marvel has to offer us with their strongest hero. When Marvel announced their upcoming slate back in 2015, people were excited about the fact that Captain Marvel will finally be making their grand entrance into the MCU.

Captain Marvel Nick Fury Phil Coulson

People were already optimistic about this project, and looking at the success of Wonder Woman which confirmed that female-led Superhero movies could be massively successful, the hype meter for Captain Marvel has gone up to an all-time high! While the EW weekly reveal gave us a look at almost every character of major importance in the film, it left out one beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe character to be probably revealed within the first trailer. Reading the heading of the article, you all might have guessed it absolutely right as that character is none other than Phil Coulson.

Captain Marvel Nick Fury Phil Coulson

A while ago it was revealed that since this will be the ultimate prequel to almost all MCU movies because we will see the SHIELD return, and also the Kree are coming back, so we could always expect other characters from the MCU movies return as well, and that is why Agent Phil Coulson is coming back in his younger version, and along with him, 2 of the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, Ronan the Accuser and Korath are also coming back.

We got a look at Korath the Pursuer and Ronan the Accuser along with the captain of the Kree Starforce Mar-Vell and a young Nick Fury with two eyes, Coulson certainly missed the cut. That may confirm that he does not have a very big role in the upcoming film and it would be just as much as he got to appear in the Phase 1 movies.

As Iron Man was an introductory movie for Tony Stark and Nick Fury, it was also the same for Agent Coulson who then went on to become one of the favourites in the MCU. People would actually be surprised to know that Clark Gregg actually has the most amount of Screen Time in the MCU with having appearances in Iron Man 1 & 2, Thor, The Avengers, Marvel’s One Shot and 5 seasons of Agents of SHIELD with one yet to arrive! Next year will be big for Agent Coulson as it may be the final year of his appearances in the MCU and Coulson will also hang his SHIELD suit along with Cap & Tony.

It is funny how 2019 will give us the start and end of Agent Phil Coulson in the MCU. He might have an appearance in Avengers 4 if the directors decide to bring him back through Time Travel (highly unlikely) but we will surely see him begin his journey in Captain Marvel and end it in the final season of Agents of SHIELD.

While we don’t have many details to what his character would be doing in Captain Marvel, Clark Gregg has given us a tease talking to EW that Captain Marvel will show us his first meeting with Nick Fury. He mentioned that the younger version of Phil Coulson is actually a big fan of MC Hammer and he even sort-of dresses like him. Then he talked about how his first encounter will be a “meet-cute moment” that dawns a friendship that goes on forever, only he also mentioned, “I don’t think Sam will put it that way.”

So we could expect a funny and special first meeting between Coulson and Fury. Hopefully, Captain Marvel will be a pretty special movie entirely. It comes out on March 8, 2019, and here’s the Synopsis:

“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races,” the synopsis reads. “Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
