Here’s Why James Gunn Didn’t Want To Steer The Wheel of “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3”

It’s hard to disagree with the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy has been and will definitely the juggernaut of Marvel Cinematic Universe forever because of the impact it made on people. With a strong fan-following with them Guardians of the Galaxy as it is the third-highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, behind just The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and collected a worldwide total of $773.3 million. But, despite being such a huge hit Guardians of the Galaxy has been in headlines for some time now with some worrying reasons as James Gunn has been sacked by the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hanging on a thread.

It’s not a secret that James Gunn felt hesitant while saying yes to the MCU for the Guardians of the Galaxy as the director revealed at a panel in May of 2017, that he almost turned down the project as he thought it’s not a good idea and one of the main reason was the inclusion of Rocket Raccoon in the movie as Gunn found it funny to have a little raccoon in the middle of The Avengers. But, in the later stages, Gunn was told about the emotional influence of the character and was used afterward by Gunn in the same but in a manner in the movies.

As we all know, Guardians of the Galaxy earned a lot of praise from the critics and Gunn was praised heavily for his remarkable job with the superheroes. But, it was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which started some kind of frustration or too much pressure on the head of the director. Just before Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrived in theaters, the director said that

“Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this…Marvel has talked to me about continuing. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do.”

It wasn’t the first time that Gunn has shown flashes of not being able to continue his journey with the Marvel as in July 2016, almost a year before Guardians Vol. 2 came out, there was much talk that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be hiring a new director. With Gunn, also pointing towards the same situation and delivering comments like:

“I’m not sure whether I’m going to do Vol 3. This one (Guardian Vol. 2) was more emotionally exhausting.”

All the speculations of him leaving the director’s chair for someone else when he admitted that killing off the character of Yondu (Michael Rooker) was just too much for him as both are very close friends and working ahead without him is just a lot for Gunn as he explains,

“Let me tell you there was nothing harder for me than the choice to kill Yondu in this movie. Michael Rooker, for all the crap I give him, is one of my closest friends in the world and the last thing I wanted to do was to make a movie without Rooker in the future. I almost didn’t do Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because there was no Michael Rooker in it and I couldn’t see making the movie without him. He means that much to me and I love him that much.”

Here’s Why James Gunn Didn’t Want To Steer The Wheel of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3

So, with all these reasons on the desk Guardians of the Galaxy fans will surely be in a state of relief that a director with a feeling of not making the movie will surely make the movie a bad one. Now, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 left without a director is going to be a state for some months as Disney is in no rush to find the replacement for the big franchise. But, no matter what has happened in the past James Gunn will always have a room in the hearts of Marvel fans as he gave them two amazing unexpected hits with alien creatures in it and has provided a stature to the Guardians in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
