Black Panther Winning Best Picture at The Oscars Maybe a Possibility
Black Panther was a groundbreaking masterpiece! There were many things that worked excellently in the movies and one of the reasons why the movie stands out and shines brightly is how amazingly, all the characters have been incorporated in the movies. Also, the story of the movie was beautifully crafted by Director Ryan Coogler. Right from the start to the end, every element worked just perfectly and what the Director wanted to deliver was delivered by so many powerful performances throughout the movie.
It created the record of being the highest rated comic book movie among the critics as the movie had a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes which no comic book movie has ever had. But the amazing numbers it has turned up are at the Box Office! Whether you consider the Domestic Box office of the worldwide Box office numbers, the movie has been top notch in both aspects.
It has created more records on the Domestic Box Office as it went past $700 Million and became the highest grossing Superhero movie in the USA. At the worldwide stage, it brought in more than $1.3 Billion being called the highest grossing solo Superhero movie and the fourth highest grossing MCU movie.
The reason why Black Panther was so good is not just because of the amazing theatrics shown throughout the movie because of the technological advancements brought in by the Wakandan Vibranium, but the movie was a complete package! It had heart, humor, emotion, romance, comedy, a good plot, great villains, over the top action and most of all, the movie stood out on the heads of its great actors.
Chadwick Boseman was great as T’Challa and Black Panther, but the movie lifted itself because of the amazing & powerful performances of the supporting actors and the villains. If you consider Letitia Right as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angella Basset as Queen Romanda, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Andy Serkis as the mischevious Ulysses Klaue, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi and most of all, Michael B Jordan as Erik Killmonger, everyone was just spot on in every scene they were!
The character motivations of every character were relatable, and the plot was really well delivered. Another reason for this movie to be incredible was that it was really inspired by the source material. Even Kevin Feige himself claimed the fact that Black Panther is the best movie Marvel has ever made!
And rightfully, Black Panther won the Best Movie and Chadwick Boseman won Best Performance at MTV Awards 2018. Michael B. Jordan also bagged the Best Villain award over Thanos for his performance as Erik Killmonger. Marvel movies have not been big on the awards except for MTV Awards, Teen Choice Awards or People’s Choice Awards.
They haven’t been big in the bigger award categories like the Academy Awards. Till now this has not affected Feige or anyone else as these movies continue to get critical acclaims and are big box office successes, but it seems like we are in for a change at 2019 Oscars.
Till now, Comic Book movies have not fared well at the Oscars except for Heath Ledger getting an Oscar for The Dark Knight or Suicide Squad earning one for best make up, but now it seems that Marvel is pushing Black Panther for a Best Picture Oscar nomination. Disney is pushing Black Panther for an Oscar nomination because even though the movie belongs to the Superhero genre, it could actually connect to a large chunk of the audience having portrayed the deeper themes of T’Challa’s journey.
Here’s what Kevin Feige said about the film:
“I would like to see the hard work and the effort and the vision and the belief of the talented filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who sat across the table from us a few years ago and said, ‘I have been wrestling with questions about my past and my heritage and I think I really want to tell a story within this movie,’ and that he did it so unbelievably well and with so much impact … seeing that potentially being recognized is what excites me the most.”
Hopefully, Black Panther does earn an Oscar nomination because it totally deserves to be among the best movies of this year.
