The Men in Black Reboot is Bringing Back A Character From The Original Trilogy

Sony is coming up with Reboot Spinoffs now more than ever. They rebooted Jumanji and loosely connected it with the previous movie, so the new one actually became a sequel. This is what happened with The Mummy (2017) as Universal Studios connected that to the original movies and turned it into a reboot sequel. The new Jurassic World franchise has also done the same thing, and now in a similar fashion, it does seem that the Men in Black Reboot is going in a similar direction!

Men in Black Reboot

A while ago, it was announced that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, the lead duo from Thor: Ragnarok is also going to be the lead duo of the upcoming Men in Black spinoff by Sony that is going to hit the theatres next year. As it has been apparent that the production of the movie has already begun, courtesy of the first set photos of Chris Hemsworth already hitting the net.

The movie will be directed by The Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray and he will be working with the Iron Man script writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. Legendary actor Liam Neeson is also starring in the movie and he is rumoured to be playing the head of the UK branch of MIB, and along with him, we have Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani who is playing Pawny,

“the third side kick” and a “funny, wise-cracking, sex-driven alien from a civilization that exists on a Chess board.”

The cast of this reboot is not done yet as 3 more members have been added to the movie which includes the international dancing stars “Les Twins,” aka Laurent Nicolas Bourgeois and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois, along with the bad guy from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Rafe Spall.

So, by the description of Liam Neeson’s character, it does prove that this new take at Men in Black will give us a more worldwide approach at the franchise rather than just focussing on the US division of the organisation with Agent J and K in the lead. So, the agents that Hemsworth and Thompson will be portraying will probably be from the UK division of the organisation.

This movie would actually be a sequel to the previous trilogy as the very new update upon the cast of the movie is bringing back a significant character from the original trilogy. It has been reported that Emma Thompson is reprising her role as Agent O in the upcoming spinoff reboot sequel.

But don’t get your hopes very high as no other characters from the original trilogy have been attached to this spinoff. Don’t expect to see Will Smith pop into the mix out of nowhere as this one will focus upon the Men in Black in the rest of the world.

This entire continuation started by Sony does feel like a great move as all three movies in the first trilogy managed to entertain the audiences very well, impressed the critics enough and at the same time, also made a huge impact at the box office. The first Men in Black made a hefty $589 Million at a budget of just $90 Million, Men in Black 2 made a good $441 Million at a budget of $140 Million and Men in Black 3 nailed it with a worldwide earning of $624 Million with a budget of $225 Million.

Sony is in a serious need of getting back to back blockbusters otherwise they may also end up like Fox. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has given them big hopes and now they are indeed rebooting the movies they have the rights to. Not just normal movies, Sony is going big with their Spider-Man Universe as they have allowed Spidey to be used in the MCU while they are using their other Spider-verse characters to bring out solo projects. Venom, as we know, is the biggest example of this and now Sony has put the Morbius movie in their top priorities as well.

Men in Black ‘4’ as now we can call it will hit the theatres on June 14, 2019, and hopefully it turns out to be as good as the original trilogy.
