Charlie’s Angels – Charlie Has Found his New Angels!

Fans of female-driven action-spy flicks have a reason to rejoice. The hit-sensation Charlie’s Angels will return to the big screens once again. In further news, the cast for the said film has also been finalized.

Scheduled for a September 2019 release, the film will be produced, co-written, and directed by Elizabeth Banks. The film will have an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska with Banks also appearing as Bosley.

Kristen Stewart, known for her role as Bella in the Twilight series, was, in fact, the first one to be officially announced for this upcoming project. Naomi Scott, who will play Jasmine in the live-action remake of Aladdin, will join the project once the principal photography of Aladdin finishes.  This film will mark as the first major Hollywood production for Balinska, who is a well-known performer in British television circles.

Charlie’s Angels originally started out as a crime drama television series in the mid-1970s, created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts. The series became an instant hit with fans and featured amongst the Top 10 in the Nielsen ratings for the initial few seasons. A film adaptation of the series released in the year 2000, which featured Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. The film received positive reviews and was the 12th highest-grosser of the year. A sequel to the film titled Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle was released in the year 2003.

In an interview with The Wrap, Banks remarked that the film is a way to honor Charles Townsend and his agency, while also to present a new era of modern and Global Angels. She also expressed her excitement to work alongside Kristen, Scott, and Balinska on the project.

Extensive details regarding the plot and storyline of the film have been kept under wraps. However, as per reports, the reboot will witness Charlie’s Townshend Agency having undergone a global business expansion of sorts, with multiple teams operating throughout the world to weed out the bad guys.

Elizabeth Banks is an established Hollywood actor and director and sits at No.41 on the list of the highest grossing actors of all time. She made her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2 and has shown her acting prowess in films like Power Rangers (2017), the 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), the Pitch Perfect Trilogy (2012-2017), and the Hunger Games film series (2012-2015).  She will not only be writing the screenplay for the film, but will also work in an acting capacity as Bosley. Bosley is one of Charlie’s employees, a sort of sidekick, and in fact the only one to have actually seen Charlie. The film will also mark the first time that Bosley will be featured as a female character.

The filming is set to start somewhere around September 2018. It will be interesting to see how the movie plays out once it hits the big screens come September 2019, and where it ranks compared to the previous films. The rebooted version will reportedly carry the comic tone of its previous franchise, and the action is only going to get better.

With female empowerment in full swing, now is the perfect time for a film like Charlie’s Angels to hit the screens, wherein women lead the charge, working together to help save the world. It will definitely be a step forward in empowering young women and girls via the medium of entertainment.
