Avengers: Infinity War is surely the biggest movie of this year and it probably is the best of the MCU till now. The reason why it was so great was that it had suspense and thrills throughout the movie and at almost every point of those 2 and a half hours there were some shocking reveals and a lot of fan-pleasing moments that everyone cherished at the theatres. After watching Avengers: Infinity War, people now have even more questions about the next one that they did before the movie.
The reason why people have so many questions now is because of the fact that the movie revealed plenty of new things which will take full form in the next film, which is Avengers 4. Out of the many jaw-dropping reveals, there were some which were prey to predictions before the movie even came out. But one of those big reveals from Infinity War was so huge that no one could have even thought of it. It was so obscure even in the comics that no one actually knew it before the movie hit the theatres. That big disclosure was none other than the Soul Stone.
Out of the many vague theories that were revolving around the internet, the Soul Stone actually turned up at Vormir which no one could have ever predicted. From lame theories like Heimdall to great ones like the Soul Stone being lost in space and time, all turned out to be false and even though the means to acquire the Soul Stone were sort of predicted, nobody could have ever known that it was at Vormir before watching the film.
The trailers for Infinity War teased the relationship between Thanos and his favourite daughter. So, this gave rise to a particular theory suggesting the reason why the Soul Stone has not appeared till now, is because it requires a big sacrifice of the soul of a loved one, a soul for a soul. This is what happened in the movie as Thanos and Gamora met with the Red Skull at Vormir, who was teleported there by the Space Stone a lifetime ago in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Well, it did turn out to be great because of the fact that no one knew, but the reason behind it being revealed so late after 18 movies is what we may wanna know. Well, we obviously know that Soul Stone is the biggest of them all just for the reason that in order to acquire it, someone had to sacrifice their loved one. So the writers of Infinity War, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely used this to their advantage by making it happen through Thanos so his big motive of bringing balance to the Universe actually gets some weight added to it.
The writers recently also talked about the other theories regarding the Soul Stone that they read, and the one they liked and deemed a possibility was the ‘Wakanda’ theory. They did mention that the Soul Stone in Wakanda could have been possible in Avengers because of the souls of the Wakandans being there and everything, but that would have added another stone on Earth. There were already 2 stones placed upon Earth and if a third one would also have turned out over there, then the whole Infinity Stones scattered throughout space would also have lost weight.
In a recent podcast with the writers of the movie, they were asked that why was this a Mystery for so long? Was it to torment fans because it sure was a huge puzzle for the fans to solve? Here’s what they said:
“Markus – Not specifically to torment you or make you wrong, but we wanted it somewhere very meaningful to Thanos, and pure to the movie so that it wasn’t ‘we’re going over here to revist…ya know.
McFeely – We already had that problem right? You knew a lot of places where the stones were so if you knew every one of them there was going to be much less mystery, and just on a screenwriting level, it was really important to us to have a mystery. What does Gamora know that you all don’t know?”
So yeah, this bit about Infinity War was probably most surprising one, along with the ending of the movie. Now, Avengers 4 is going to unravel other huge mysteries which still do not let us sleep. It opens on May 3.
