Here’s How Time Travel May Work In Avengers 4!

Avengers: Infinity War came, saw and conquered the imagination of every comic-book fan cutting across geographies. It was the ultimate comic-book thriller with a healthy dose of humor. The movie was in the works for a decade as 18 MCU movies preceding led us to the epic showdown between Mad Titan Thanos and Avengers Assemble, it was totally worth the wait.

In the end, Thanos managed to collect all six Infinity stones, assembled them in a gauntlet and snapped his fingers to fulfill his purpose in life i.e wiping out half the life in the galaxy to bring balance to the universe. This resulted in the death of millions including half of all superheroes. But coincidently, the original six Avengers survived the mega snap.

Avengers 4 will pick up the pieces of Infinity War but it will not be the direct sequel. It will mark the culmination of all events unfolded in MCU till now and take them to their logical conclusion. The remaining Avengers have to find a way to undo the massive damage that Thanos has done and then make him pay for what he did.

The only way Avengers stand any chance in this war is if they could use ‘time travel’ and reverse the clock to fix the gigantic mess. We know that time travel will be used as Avengers 4 set images to show the Avengers in their old outfits. Till now, we had no idea of how it will be used in Avengers 4. But with Ant-Man and Wasp, there is more clarity of the rules that dictate ‘Quantum realm’.

Hank Pym defined Quantum realm as “the reality where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant as you shrink for all eternity”. But he was proven to be slightly wrong as his wife Janet Van Dyne couldn’t have then returned to the real physical world in a different state than when she entered.

Ant-Man and the Wasp quantum-realm

The Marvel President Kevin Feige explained that it is a more complex phenomenon and there are layers upon layers to the sub-atomic realm. Hence, the deeper you go, more the laws of physics cease to apply.  For instance, Janet Van Dyne was rescued from “Wastelands beyond the void” which wasn’t the deepest layer there is. Hence, she did age but it’s not comparable with Hank Pym.

Here’s what Feige said:

“Ultimately you wanna have an emotional reunion with Michael Douglas, an emotional reunion with Evangeline Lily and our first instinct had always been specifically now Michelle Pfeiffer from that first movie.  It felt like it should be somebody who’s the right age.  As opposed to Michael Douglas with somebody who has not aged.  Or Evangeline Lilly connecting with somebody who’s not aged.  That just adds another layer of sort of sci-fi weirdness.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp

In the post-credits scene, when Scott Lang went into the Quantum realm one more time, Janet Van Dyne told Lang to avoid getting stuck in the time vortexes. The scene is small which is why we don’t know the specifics, but this could play an important role in Avengers 4 when the remaining Avengers or Ant-Man himself would travel to the Quantum realm to change the outcome of the war.

It is yet to be seen how MCU utilizes ‘Quantum Realm’ in the future, till then fans can continue to speculate and formulate theories. The brief plot synopsis for Avengers 4 has been released by an officially licensed magazine. Read it below:

“A culmination of 22 interconnected films, the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”

Avengers Infinity War
