MCU Phase 4 – Every New Character Confirmed To Be In Development After Avengers 4

The Marvel Cinematic Universe as we all know is the biggest brand in Hollywood now. It started the trend of a shared Universe, and so far, there’s no one else in Hollywood that has been successful at maintaining a shared Universe, as well as Marvel, has. Avengers Infinity War came out just 3 days ago, and it was the 19th movie of the MCU that began the epic conclusion of an Era.

The movie was an ultimate comic-book thriller with incredible fan service done by Marvel. The Russo brothers have proven that they are an invincible duo when it comes to big ensemble movies as their last outing Captain America: Civil War was another gem. This time they have pulled a cinematic masterpiece as the movie broke all norms of a typical Marvel movie.

For the first time, in a long time, the movie had real stakes and darker tone which fans don’t associate with MCU. In the last decade, the villain named Thanos was built as this cosmic supervillain who will scare the hell out of everyone and buoy he did. He was the most terrifying adversary that Avengers had ever faced and he literally ripped their world apart. He was not just an unstoppable monster but an evil genius with a mission. He is on a quest to collect six Infinity stones which if assembled in a gauntlet would make him the most powerful cosmic force in the universe.

His goal was to bring balance in the universe as resources are limited and the population is increasing. So the only way out is to wipe off half the life in the universe. He considers himself as the only one who is strong willed to take hard decisions. In a way, he is a hero of his own sick, twisted story. Well, he did succeed in his mission.

This movie has had the biggest movie opening of all time as it has already brought in $630 Million at the Worldwide Box Office within just 3 days of its release. It also became the highest grossing movie for the opening weekend at the domestic Box Office as it beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens and brought in a huge $250 Million.

It will push Marvel Studios over $15 Billion, and maybe even closer to $16 Billion as it surely has the legs to earn $2 Billion at the worldwide Box Office. The movie was full of heroes, and some of them didn’t even appear in the movie. they are going to be brought in the second movie which may be even bigger.

Marvel is a powerhouse and people will buy whatever they are going to sell. So, Marvel has already put into the works many projects bringing in new, never seen before Superheroes onto the big screen. Even other than the X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four which Marvel does not own yet but will surely have plans for, Marvel has the following Superheroes confirmed to be under development for Phase 4:

Moon Knight

Well, the other new heroes confirmed to be under development are all a part of the wider cosmos, and this is the only character that resides on the green planet. This is one of James Gunn’s favorite characters, but unfortunately, he is busy with the Guardians and does not have time for the character. Still, Feige confirmed that Marvel does have plans for Moon Knight, but they may be, “five years from now, 10 years from now, 15 years from now.”

Marc Spector aka Moon Knight was a mercenary villain at the beginning but then, he was turned into a hero who was exposed to the magic of the Egyptian Moon God, Khonshu. He is a vigilante of a confused mental state who has superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes, but their level actually varies depending on the phases of the moon!

What makes him interesting for a movie is that he has a multiple personality disorder which makes it difficult for him to discern reality from his own imagination.  So, telling a story with this character could actually be insane!

The Eternals

It is very obvious that the MCU will explore the cosmos much more than they have in Phase 4. So, we may get a variety of characters even if the Fantastic Four does not come back to Marvel. Out of many cosmic properties that Marvel owns comes one of the biggest of all, known as The Eternals who are an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created eons ago by the Celestials. Here’s what Feige said about this project:

“‘Eternals is one of many, many, many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about.”

So, maybe 5-6 years down the lane, we could get to see this project be developed. It could carry forward what was started in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is exploring the Celestials of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ego was the first one that got the limelight, and with the Eternals, we could get more.

Adam Warlock

This is one of the more immediate characters under development. Adam Warlock was the most important character in the Infinity Gauntlet comics but he was not a part of the movie based upon the comics, Avengers: Infinity War. James Gunn confirmed that Warlock will not be a part of Avengers 4 as well, as he has plans for Warlock in Guardians Vol. 3. Here is what he said:

“I had to fight for Adam in the post-credits sequence. Because I really thought that’s where that should go. And I thought one of the main reasons to have the Sovereign in the movie was to give audiences the hint that Adam Warlock is coming. That was one of the reasons for them to exist. And I wrote that post-credits sequence in the first draft of the script. And then there were a lot of questions about whether or not we should put that in there, because people were going to expect Adam Warlock in Infinity War. So one of the things I promised, which I do all of the time on Twitter, is letting everyone know that Adam Warlock is not going to be in Avengers Infinity War or Avengers 4. It’s just not going to happen. Because I didn’t want people to have false expectations of what they thought was going to happen with Adam.”

Warlock was teased in both Guardians Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, and he may finally take form out of his cocoon in Vol. 3. Marvel will surely have plans for Warlock beyond Vol. 3 as he is a huge character, and may even get a solo movie, or at least another team up movie.

Nova

The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige revealed that Nova is one character who has the “immediate potential” to join the MCU in Phase 4. The Nova Corps has already been established in the first Guardians movie, and Avengers: Infinity War confirmed that Thanos wreaked havoc upon Xandar to retrieve the Power Gem. So, this itself may lead to the origin story of Nova.

There have been two versions of Nova in the comics by the name of Sam Alexander and Richard Rider. Richard Rider has been name-dropped by James Gunn, but we may get a movie that has both versions of the hero as both wield the power of the Nova Force – and use it to devastating effect against their enemies.

The official movie synopsis reads:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
