Deadpool 2 Writers Will Actually Skip Deadpool 3 And Make Deadpool 4

Deadpool 2 is finally out and the fans are loving it. The first movie created history by being one of the most profitable films, and the highest grossing R-Rated movie ever. It made about $800 million at the Box office while the cost of production was just $60 million. It opened up an entirely new genre for Adult Superhero content to be put on the screen. So, far we have only seen Logan and Deadpool own that mantra, but there are talks for future movies and franchises to follow this.

Here’s what Director David Leitsch said:

“The success of the first film has given us license to explore opening up the world and actually being more provocative. That’s what people are going to expect. They did such an incredible job with the first film — I’m such a huge fan, that it’s exciting to get to play in that sandbox. The fun thing about Deadpool is, there are no rules. Look at the comic book series. There aren’t any rules. We break them! That’s what is fun”.

Deadpool 2 is a total fun ride, as it is even better than the first one. The first movie had to keep the plot revolving around a small story arc because it had a very minimal budget, and still the movie managed to make the most of it. Looking at that success, Fox gave Deadpool 2 a bigger budget and the result is what’s playing in the theatres now. It’s a rollicking ride full of high paced action and witty one liners by Merc with a Mouth.

The movie has a good storyline, does not feel too crammed up, the humor is more adult, there are very surprising cameos in the movie, the chase sequences are pretty crisp and amazing, and the Post credits scene of this movie is actually believed to be the best of all. The reviews are pouring in and they are mostly positive. The movie is certified ‘Fresh’ and the RT Score is 84% which is pretty impressive.

And as Director David Leisch said that the chemistry between Deadpool and Cable will be the one to die for, he has totally nailed in that department. He said:

“Cable has a really interesting and complex backstory. Obviously, no film could ever encapsulate the entire backstory, so I think we’ll find the first introduction is about who this character is. When you look at the Cable and Deadpool comic book series, you see how there is banter between them. Whether they are on opposite sides or not, they are definitely formidable to each other. One is frustrating to the other. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin is amazing. It’s not unlike what you see in the Cable and Deadpool series”.

The Deadpool creator Rob Leifeld likened the movie to ‘Rush Hour’ which is incredibly weird as Deadpool and Cable did’nt start off as a team. He praised Josh and Ryan Reynolds to no end. Here’s what he said:

“If you only see No Country for Old Men and Sicario, you’ve seen two great totally separate Josh Brolin performances. The Llewelyn who is sullen but determined and doesn’t speak much but you follow him the whole time in No Country, and Sicario, he’s this wild, shoot-em-up CIA guy. The guy is a tremendous actor.”

He added:

“Josh is such a great actor, that’s where it starts, and gravitas, and who else really is going to hold their ground with Ryan as Wade/Deadpool. That is energy unbridled, and so you’ve gotta hold your ground. When I see the two of them I’m like “It’s comic book’s equivalent to Rush Hour, and I don’t know if comic fans are ready for it. I think it’s just great.”

But despite huge success of the sequel, there may not be Deadpool 3. As we saw in the trailers itself, that Wade teased the fact that we may not actually get to make a third movie. The Studios should stop at two when they have nailed it. But this little dialogue actually hid 2 references within. One of those was the upcoming acquisition of Fox done by Disney.

When Disney would own Fox, they will have brought together the entire house of Marvel together, which means that the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters may now be used in the MCU. So the future of Deadpool may not be certain as this acquisition would be completed until next year.

The second hint which was hidden here was that they would be going for X-Force after this and not another solo Deadpool movie. Everything that happened in the movie related to X-Force was pretty amazing and it has successfully given a proper basis to this name for it to be established in the future.

Here’s what Scrip writer Rhett Reese said earlier:

“I think what we stumbled into was a new tone, and I think we hope to have our own universe that is defined less by characters and timelines and things like that and more by tone. Deadpool 2 and X-Force and future movies all be this new, consistent, sillier tone. More self-aware tone. And edgier and rated-R tone. We want to be establishing the universe but also focusing on each individual movie and not worrying too much about building a larger threat to the world or a larger plot machination.”

He added: “There is a responsibility we have towards the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2. Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.”

Ryan Reynolds himself has mentioned the fact that the next movie that will come out is probably going to be based on the team set up in Deadpool 2, X-Force.

Since Ryan Reynolds has quite a significant creative control behind Deadpool, what he says is going to be true. But now, the writers of this movie, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick have come out and clarified what he meant by this. Here’s what Wernick said:

“Calendar-wise, X-Force is next up in line. Drew is finishing up his movie [Bad Times at the El Royale]. Come the fall, I think he’ll turn his attention fulltime to X-Force and so that’s next up in the series. I do think we are always thinking about Deadpool. It will be nice to take a little bit of a break. We’ve been writing consecutive Deadpool drafts for the last nine years. And we’ve got drafts since 2009 in our computer all the way through to 2018. So, it will be nice to kind of catch our breath. My guess is you will see Deadpool again in his own movie. Whether we skip Deadpool 3 and just go to Deadpool 4, I’m not sure. But my guess is you will be seeing much more of Deadpool in the future in various forms and fashions.”
