Avengers: Infinity War Writers Reveal The “Team Up” That Never Happened In The Movie

Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest movie of this year and it is going to make history at the box office. Disney and Marvel will make and break so many records with this movie. Even though the movie got an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it still had no effect what so ever at the box office. And with the pace this movie is going with, there is nothing that could slow it down. $2 Billion is a sure thing from here on even after the upcoming stiff competition of Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The plot of the movie revolved around Thanos’ goal to bring balance to the universe through extermination of half the life in the galaxy. He can do that at the snap of his fingers if he could assemble the gauntlet with all the Infinity Stones. The only force that is standing between him and destruction of half the humanity are Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

As the Russos suggested, it was like a heist movie where Mad Titan is stealing cosmic singularities one by one and everytime someone is sacrificed. Here’s what they said:

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

Even after having so many characters bringing in their own Story arcs into this massive film, the directors were able to pull off a story that was the biggest surprise for everyone watching it at the theatre. It turned out to be the biggest thriller even after having countless story aspects from the past converge into one epic story. No one could have predicted the entire story of this film and that is what was really great about it.

This movie was great in every aspect whether it was fast paced action or stunning visual effects, but what was different about it was the darker tone. The ending hit us like an emotional thunderbolt which sent shock-waves down the spine of everyone and now people are going to be even more excited about the next one as the GOT level Cliffhanger has been left in our minds. One thing people were really eager to see were the team-ups this movie had to offer.

Tony and Strange, Spidey and Tony, Rabbit – Groot – Thor, Cap – Nat – Sam, you name it! They were all incredible. The Russos and the writers of the movie, Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely considered having a lot of characters and they even thought of bringing some of the TV characters as well.

With those characters, we would have always gotten more team-ups as well. The Directors already teased certain unexpected Team-Ups in the movie and we were all excited to see what all they had in store for us.

Now, the writers, Markus & McFeely have revealed that one really amazing team up almost happened instead of what we really got in the movie. They revealed that in place of Tom Holland’s Spidey, Anthony Mackie’s Falcon would have teamed up with Iron Man as this was a part of an early draft of the film which reunited the two enemies in the wake of Captain America: Civil War. Here’s what Christopher Markus said:

“There was one [version] where Spider-Man did not go to space, and where Falcon went to space. And it was fun, it was interesting, it’s always great to have those guys in various situations and there was a lot to do with them in both situations, but we weren’t getting as much emotion as we could if we brought them back to people who know them.”

We have to admit that even though team up just might have worked out, we would not have gotten the emotion that we actually did with Tony and Spidey. “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good”, is what left us all full of sorrow! So clearly, Falcon and Tony would not have worked even after it would have been visually epic.

The Russos and Holland spoke about the scene and they revealed that Holland actually did not know that his character was dying until the day they shot it, so he had to improvise and it turned out to be one of the most emotional moments in the film. Matt Aiken, the visual effects supervisor who helped with this particular scene had something really interesting to say about this. Here’s what he said:

“Spidey’s really fighting it. He definitely doesn’t want to go and he’s fighting… he’s incredibly powerful, so he’s able to withhold it for a lot longer than some of the others, but in the end he can’t withstand it.”

Further, the special effects team for Infinity War claims that the scene took an emotional toll on the group:

“Nobody at Weta could watch that. The first few times we watched that we all choked up, it’s an incredibly powerful performance and a key moment in the film I think. There was less room to kind of smoke and mirrors it if you like. We had to make sure that it worked really, really well, because it was so drawn out, and so it had to withhold very high levels of scrutiny because we were holding right on Spidey’s face over Tony’s shoulder, through that. It was just making sure that it worked completely consistently, seamless through that trauma process.”

Avengers: Infinity War was something else! So many epic performances are what actually made this flick really big and very close to our hearts. The Russos have actually managed to pull off a miracle and hopefully, Avengers 4 will top this somehow.

Avengers Infinity War is currently playing in the theatres, go watch the movie if you have not. Here is the official synopsis, read it below:

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
