Avengers: Infinity War – Here’s Why Loki Should Be The One To Blame And Not Star-Lord

Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest movie Marvel has ever produced, and it was surely the ultimate thriller of any Superhero movie. It leaves us on a GOT level cliffhanger which we could have never expected. The movie has pleased even the harshest of MCU critics who always used to complain that Marvel films don’t have real stakes which could alter the universe dramatically. Well, Infinity War has silenced them for good.

It portrayed Thanos as the big bad of MCU and waiting for so many years to make him feel his fury was totally worth it. He is certainly the best MCU villain ever, better than Loki, Hela, and Killmonger. He was menacing as hell right from the start and came across as the ‘Darth Vader’ of MCU. He was the most terrifying adversary that Avengers had ever faced and even with Guardians they failed to stop him.

[SPOILER ALERT]

The reason why Avengers Assemble couldn’t beat him was that he wasn’t just some random evil guy who wants to unleash havoc, instead he was a genius cosmic supervillain who knew why he was doing, what he is doing. His motivations were justified in his own mind, and he actually was the hero of his own story. He believed the universe owes him a great favor as he is the only one who is strong willed to take the hardest decisions for the entire cosmos.

Avengers: Infinity War

The movie took place on 6 Different Planets and in 2 different cosmic locations other than those planets where Thanos went back and forth looking for the Infinity Stones so that he could fulfill the purpose of his life which was to wipe out half the population of the entire Galaxy and bring balance to the lives of the ones left alive. With all six cosmic singularities assembled in a gauntlet, he could do that at the snap of his fingers.

The Avengers almost stopped Thanos from being able to collect all the Infinity Stones thrice, but with Thanos’ intelligence and the Stones that he had managed to collect, the odds were totally against the Avengers and so, Thanos was able to fulfill his destiny and complete the purpose of his life. In the last scene, he was looking at nice sunrise from a distance and feeling contented.

Infinity War

But there was this one time on Titan where the Avengers and the Guardians were really able to take the Gauntlet away from the Mad Titan and they would have totally won if they would have been successful.

Thanos came to Titan after retrieving the Soul Stone from Vormir, and he had returned to his planet to acquire the Time Stone which was in the possession of Doctor Strange. There Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis & Nebula were ready for kicking asses and take the gauntlet away from him.

So, Thanos’ arrival resulted in a fierce battle between Avengers-Guardians and Thanos. The fight was also joined by Nebula. Since the heroes were prepared, they were able to outsmart the cosmic warlord and Mantis put him to sleep as the others were able to strangle him.

Thanos being semi-conscious was under the control of the heroes who were going for the Gauntlet, and if they would have been successful in removing the Gauntlet from his hand, then they would have been able to stop Thanos.

But as Iron Man and Spider-Man almost removed the Gauntlet, Thanos revealed that he had killed Gamora which really pissed Star-Lord who attacked Thanos, which actually helped him to recover from the control of the Avengers.

So, this resulted in Thanos being able to collect the Infinity Stones and be successful. But if you think about it, even before Star-Lord screwed up and could not keep a control on his emotions, things could have been for the better if the God of Mischief would not have done the things that he did.

The more immediate thing which led to the end of the world was him picking up the Tesseract from Asgard before it got destroyed. The Tesseract might have been destroyed or lost somewhere in the cosmos. And even if he did steal it, he could have told his brother Thor about it so he would have been better prepared for the inevitable attack by Thanos. In his sheer hubris, Loki is the chief culprit for half the life wiped off the universe.

But even before the Tesseract incident, the end of half of the population of this Universe was written when Loki faked his death and sneaked in Asgard sending Odin away, ruling it for 2 whole years without keeping in check the 9 realms allowed Thanos to prepare for the attack on the entire Galaxy. Thanos was able to collect all the means necessary with Odin not around, and Loki doing nothing to maintain peace throughout the 9 Realms.

So, you could call Loki to actually be the main Villain of the story. Fans would still be hoping for Loki to be alive and somehow outsmart Thanos and everyone else, but it may not be the plausible future as his death surely looks to be permanent, and him using illusions to fake his death would really feel too repetitive for the story of the MCU.

Avengers: Infinity War

Still, Hiddleston would be back as Loki in Avengers 4, but it will be through the time travel events that are going to be coming in the next movie. We would see Loki from the past be there in the movie. There is no way that he is alive now as Thanos used an Infinity stone to finish him off right in front of Thor. This is the end of his story and there are no resurrections this time.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently playing in the theatres. It is directed by Russo brothers who previously directed two Captain America movies – Winter Soldier and Civil War.
