Avengers Infinity War is going to be the biggest comic book ensemble movie in the history of Hollywood. Never before has any studio tried making an epic spectacle like this where at least 67 major comic book characters are expected to appear, half of them will be superheroes.
This will be the beginning of the end of a distinct chapter in the MCU. Till now 18 movies have been released across three phases, Infinity War will be the culmination of everything that has happened till now and bring closure to many unresolved plots and storylines. If the hype surrounding the movie translates into audience’s footfalls into the theaters, this could be the highest grossing superhero movie of all times.
Russos described Avengers Infinity War as a heist movie where Thanos along with his Black Order will steal all the six Infinity stones and assemble the Infinity gauntlet which will make him the most powerful cosmic entity in the entire universe. Once Thanos has six cosmic singularities, he can destroy half the humanity at the snap of his fingers as all the fundamental forces of existence will be controlled by him. The only ones standing between the Mad Titan and total destruction are Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Out of six Infinity stones, five have already been discovered but Soul Stone is still hidden somewhere. Fans thought that it will be featured in Black Panther solo movie but there was no mention whatsoever. Hence, the other credible theory that it is actually in possession of Heimdall is gaining momentum. In order to understand that we need to go all the way back.
The following lines are the one that prompted the Infamous Thor bath scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was only through Scarlet Witch’s powers that Thor was lulled into a nightmare. But unlike normal sentient beings, A God’s dream always has real-world implications. The vision that Thor sees is of Asgard and his fellow citizens enjoying a feast. But something is amiss. The oddest thing about the vision is that Heimdall’s eyes are pure white without pupils and not bright orange that they should be.

When questioned, Heimdall’s bursts into a fit of rage and recites the aforementioned lines. Then Thor is flashed with the visions of the infinity stones that were revealed up until Age of Ultron and finally the eyes of Thanos. But this is not the important part.
The thing is the implications of Heimdall’s exact words in the Age of Ultron only became clear after the events of Thor: Ragnarok. The third movie in the Thor franchise awed fans with its exceptional visual art style and the Thor vs Hulk fight is one of the greatest highlights of the entire MCU.
However, things really start to blow our minds when we put this vision of Thor into perspective with the occurrence that was Ragnarök, a whole new picture begins to appear. It seems that the prediction of Heimdall does relate to infinity war like all the fans had speculated before but what leads up to the events of the slaughter so foreshadowed by Heimdall’s words were the events of Ragnarök itself.
It is an established fact that the ship we see in the credits scene of Thor Ragnarök is, in fact, the ship onboard which Thanos is headed through space on a journey to collect the infinity stones. It’s is also theorized, ever since the infinity war trailer, that as soon as Thanos boards the grandmaster’s ship full of Asgard Ian refugees a confrontation will take place between Thor and Thanos.
Unknown to Thor Loki is in the possession of the space stone (swiped from Odin’s vault just before the end of Thor Ragnarök) and it will take a substantial amount of slaughter before the Norse God of mischief decides to hand it to the Mad Titan. The first line of defense against Thanos will be the remnants of Asgard looking for refuge. Not trained soldiers or warriors (there remain none thanks to Hela) but a fallen God of Thunder, an exhausted gatekeeper, a liar, a Valkyrie, and a war-torn people.
It seems that when the Asgardian refugee ship will be sacked it will kill off a plethora of characters. Avengers infinity war needs to drag the audience in from the very start, the idea being that people need to realize how high the stakes really are. We only had the opportunity to see Loki and Thor in the trailers, it is entirely plausible that entire population of Asgard is already dead at this point. This is the secret of the eyes of Heimdall. He is dead, that’s the symbolism. The light has vanished from his eyes, his soul is gone.
This is another important aspect of this hypothesis. The general fandom has long since agreed that Heimdall may possess the last infinity stone vis a vis the Soul Stone. The contention of the fandom is that the soul stone is the source of Heimdall’s all-seeing power and the stone has empowered his soul. The fans also argue that that is the reason why Heimdall’s power manifests itself as an orange glow in the eyes of the gatekeeper.
The eyes are the windows to the soul. Regardless, to see the Asgardian people and Heimdall being slaughtered in front of us as the movie starts might be exactly what the director needs to establish Thanos’ dominance on the screen upon his imminent arrival. It is produced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige along with a set of executive producers including the veteran of Marvel comics Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo etc. The screenplay has been written by a talented duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
