Keanu Reeves Says Again That He Has Always Wanted to Play Wolverine

With Marvel developing their immensely huge & diversified future, one of the biggest questions that everyone has in their minds is who will be playing Wolverine. Even if Marvel doesn’t tell us when they will bring the X-Men into the MCU, they should at least tell who the next Wolverine is going to be. This is an answer that will keep the fans excited and quiet at the same time because then they’d know that Marvel does have plans with these potential flagship characters.

As far as Marvel’s future plans are concerned, Kevin Feige did mention that we shouldn’t expect any announcements until Spider-Man: Far From Home releases. Here’s what he said:

“I don’t wanna be annoying, but I think it … In a certain way, that is also sort of a post-Endgame spoiler. I will say all of the post Comic-Con, post Spider-Man: Far From Home stuff, we … Here’s an exclusive. We’re gonna keep making movies. We’re gonna still keep making movies after these two. And we will talk about them soon after Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out.”

It was recently confirmed that Disney will announce their plans at D23 Expo which takes place in August. But when Feige was asked by io9 about when the Fox properties like the X-Men and Fantastic Four will appear in the MCU, he said:

“It’ll be a while. It’s all just beginning and the five-year plan that we’ve been working on, we were working on before any of that was set. So really it’s much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where [the X-Men will appear] right now and more just the comfort factor and how nice it is that they’re home. That they’re all back. But it will be a very long time.”

The X-Men have just ended their run with the Dark Phoenix and Marvel will certainly want to wait for a while before they make another X-Men movie. But Wolverine retired 2 years back, and the Fantastic Four were cancelled after their horrendous 2015 reboot. So, these are the two properties that Marvel could surely move forward with. Wolverine for sure is going to get a solo franchise. He is too big of a name to just be a part of the X-Men.

So, let it out, Marvel! Who is it going to be? Apparently, Marvel has been trying to get Keanu Reeves onboard for a character. The recent rumor suggests that he will be playing the big bad villain in The Eternals. But if it were left upon Reeves, he’s choosing to play Wolverine any day. He preferred Logan when given a choice between Batman and Wolvi, and even now he says that he has always wanted to play Wolverine. In his recent interview with BuzzFeed, he said:

“I don’t know. When I was a kid, I always wanted to play Wolverine. So Wolverine.”

Considering that Reeves and Marvel must be in a great space, so Marvel should make this happen. But even though Reeves is too determined at doing his own stunts, he has grown pretty old to play the character. Hugh Jackman retired because he had grown too old to continue the Wolverine workout. Reeves is 4 years older than him as of now! Marvel would want their Wolverine to tag along at least for a decade. Even if they bring Reeves in right now, he’d be 64 in the next 10 years.

So, the age factor just wouldn’t allow him to play such a physically demanding role. Sure he can do that. Look at the likes of Arnold and Sylvester, still going strong in their 70s. Reeves could pull it off if he wants to, but the next question here is that does Marvel want it? If he becomes Wolvi, then he’d look somewhat similar to Hugh, and Marvel might want someone along the lines of Tom Hardy, i.e an average heighted, bulky animal! So, people would be disappointed that John Wick won’t be the next Wolverine. But it is what it is!
