A Huge Easter Egg In Guardians of The Galaxy Has Been Spotted

One of the best surprises Marvel had to give us was none other than Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel made a team of outcasts, brought in a director who was not very renowned before Guardians, green lit a script by him, and cast actors who were not that big, and turned them into mega movie stars by creating something really special and very close to our hearts.

The first Guardians movie outdid our expectations in every way! It was the complete package of incredible action, stand out humor, heartfelt emotion and universe building. But on the top of everything, the reason behind its success was brilliant marketing by Marvel that they were not just able to introduce a group of such weird comic book characters to fans (out of whom only nerds knew about Guardians), instead they have become household names.

Guardians of the Galaxy

In the GOTG Vol. 1, a gang of outcasts came together to protect a powerful artifact i.e Orb which Peter Quill stole and is then attacked from all corners. Gamora’s contact Taneleer Tivan opened an Orb and showed an Infinity stone that holds limitless powers to destroy the entire galaxy except for powerful beings who wields it. In the end, Groot sacrificed his own life to save the team from certain death. He then came in a new avatar of ‘Baby Groot’.

In the GOTG Vol. 2, Peter Quill’s father’s identity was revealed which has been a huge secret in the first movie. He was none other than a powerful celestial known as Ego The Living Planet. He harbored ambitions of conquering all worlds and wanted Quill to be in on it. But Peter resisted and with his team-mates quelled onslaught unleashed by Ego.

The two GOTG movies did a lot of other things for the MCU too as we saw the Universe of the MCU expand from just Earth and Asgard, we started to care about a team that most people did not even know about until the movie came out, and most importantly, it gave us a very minute tease at what The Mad Titan could do to everyone in the future. It was filled with cameos, and tonnes of Easter Eggs referencing the Marvel Universe.

Howard the Duck had a cameo, Stan Lee obviously had a cameo, Thanos had a cameo, The Collector also had an extended cameo of sorts and many more. The coming of The Collector helped the movie in a great way, and it also gave us the necessary introduction of The Collector which was needed after the mid-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok. Moreover, The Collector’s vault was a treasure island of Easter Eggs for the MCU.

Fans were able to spot a lot of things in the Collector’s vault-like Adam Warlock’s cocoon, Cosmo the space dog, as mentioned above Howard the Duck was there, Seth Green, A Chitauri Soldier, and over 50 other references and nods to the Marvel Comics. Since there was a lot riding on this movie and Gunn had to introduce something new that no one knew about, James Gunn had the freedom to do whatever he wanted to and he brought us the origin story of characters who will be really important in Infinity War in the best way possible.

Guardians is surely one of the best origin stories and team up movies ever made. Gunn balanced every character in the best way possible, gave us immensely amazing dialogue and more importantly, went beyond the boundaries of the MCU till then, giving us possibly the best movie ever made in outer space. As mentioned above, not just The Collector’s vault, but the entire movie was a treasure island for Easter Eggs.

While most fans had spotted almost all of those in the movie, one very important Easter Egg according to James Gunn remained hidden in plain sight till now. Now, fans have spotted a huge Easter Egg which is possibly what Gunn had been talking about a year back. Here’s what he said about the Easter Egg as he specifically mentioned that he wouldn’t let fans know until the whole Easter Egg had been found:

“I’m not going to let you know, but I will give you some path. There’s a very secret hidden Easter Egg in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. Some people have gotten very, very close…to what that Easter Egg is. Maybe you’ve even found partial the Easter Egg [sic]. I haven’t said you’ve found it because you haven’t found the whole thing yet,” the director continued. “You need to find the entire Easter Egg for me to say, ‘Yes, you’ve found it.’ It’s there. It’s already been partially uncovered. You just need to find the whole thing.”

This Easter Egg which is believed to be found now is actually connected to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as it includes the Watchers, who are one of the oldest species in the universe and are committed to observing and compiling knowledge on all aspects of the universe. Stan Lee made the most important cameo of the MCU by appearing alongside the Watchers in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy

But now, fans have spotted that Vol. 2 was not the first movie to bring us the Watchers as we had already seen them appear in the first one. The scene on Xandar which came right after Peter Quill was ditched for the Orb, and the fight between Quill, Gamora, Rocke, and Groot began. In the left corner of two stills, we can see beings none other than the Watchers!

This was probably the Easter Egg gun was talking about and it is totally amazing to see how he hid this right in front of our eyes. If you are still clueless then watch both GOTG Vol. 1 & 2 right now, here is the official synopsis:

“Brash space adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb’s true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe”.

“Peter Quill and his fellow Guardians are hired by a powerful alien race, the Sovereign, to protect their precious batteries from invaders. When it is discovered that Rocket has stolen the items they were sent to guard, the Sovereign dispatch their armada to search for vengeance. As the Guardians try to escape, the mystery of Peter’s parentage is revealed”.

Now, Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Avengers: Infinity War next which will open on April 27, 2018. They will be fighting alongside Avengers against Thanos and his massive alien army who are hell-bent on destroying half the humanity. Here is the official synopsis, read it below:

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.
