MCU is the biggest brand in Hollywood with 18 movies to its slate and over $14 Billion to its credit. The last movie ‘Black Panther’ shattered all box office records and is now officially the highest grossing superhero movie at the US Box office and has made $1.2 Billion worldwide.
Well, if you thought that was huge, wait till you get a load of upcoming Avengers Infinity War. It broke the previous record for pre-sales in just 6 hours and the movie is tracking mind-boggling box-office numbers at the opening weekend, somewhere in the ballpark of $200-250 million. If the massive hype that has currently enveloped the movie lasts for a number of weeks, then the movie has enough juice to even breach $2 Billion mark when everything is said and done.
The plot revolves round Mad Titan’s quest to collect Infinity stones scattered in different places, assemble an Infinity gauntlet and destroy half of the humanity, while rule the remaining half. He wants to be nothing short of being the ultimate ruler of entire cosmos. The Russos called it a heist movie, they said:
With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration.
Once he acquires six cosmic singularities, he will have control over the fundamental forces of existence which literally makes him invincible. Moreover, he is coming with his insanely dangerous Black Order and a massive army of ruthless alien fighters aka ‘The Outriders’. The only ones who can save the humanity from Thanos are Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.
The marketing for the movie is in its full swing as only 13 days are left. You have to hand it to the studio. Disney knows how to publicize. Fans lull in the anticipation of Infinity War and not a day goes by that the studio doesn’t create chatter to cater to ever growing fan curiosity and anticipation. What will happen, who will die? Will humanity survive the Infinity War and if it will then what will be the cost of our survival?
These are all questions that the fans try to answer every day with newly concocted theories and irregular updates.
But what do you do when you have to release spoiler free content to create chatter? Well, according to the marketing people at Marvel studios, you put together a clip made up of old footage and offset interviews, smash the face of Chris Pratt and put Chris Hemsworth Body on display and call it a TV feature The for “Marvel family”. Here is the new TV spot for your scrutiny.
Although the video reveals absolutely nothing about the plot line or the footage of Infinity War and does solidify the idea that marvel studio seeks to convey. That the actors, who have worked there for so long and the personas they have assumed to become our heroes, area family. They work together and they have grown together along with the Marvel cinematic universe, they are a part of it. They have lived the universe we watch.
The TV spot or as Marvel likes to call it”featurette” op NSA with the same scene from infinity war that we’ve viewed in every leaked footage or TV spot. Thor meets/ is discovered by/ the guardians of the galaxy. We see Starlord, Gamora, Mantis, Drax, and Rocket surround the unconscious body of Chris Hemsworth as Starlord begins to question, “ Who is this dude ?”
At this point, Drax ( whose people are literal beings I.e. they have no concept of figurative speech or exaggeration) chooses to answer Chris Pratt’s question. Drexel corrects, “ This is not a dude, it is a man, a man with a great body”.
This is where we shift from footage to backstage interviews, with this new family featurette tv spot we get a peek behind the scenes at Marvel Studios. A peek backstage on the filming of Avengers Infinity war. The most anticipated movie of the decade knocking at the fans’ doorstep with backstage footage and interviews, How ironical.
As the video goes on we witness Chris Hemsworth dub Chris Pratt as a legitimate avenger and a part of the team. Pratt thinks he’s a third leg avenger at best. However, we witness the exchange that takes place between the actors and understand how the relationships have developed over e years. He directors use this and divert our attention to the other relationships that the filming of Avengers Infinity war has led to. The dynamics between actors developing over the decade-long period of development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The entire tone lifts up just enough to make us remember what all we saw over the years, a call to the nostalgia of the fans and then shows us the story that never aired. Shows us how woman playing strong relish in the power play of their characters. Be it Scarlett Johannesson playing the lethal Black Widow or Karen Gillian taking on Gamora as the psychopath Nebula. I wish the one who ends up holding the infinity gauntlet, in the end, be Nebula. A little callback to the comics even if she is not the ultimate twist or climax of the movie.
Avengers Infinity War will hit the theaters worldwide on April 27, 2018. It is directed by Joe & Anthony Russo i.e Russo brothers and produced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige along with a set of executive producers including the veteran writer of Marvel comics Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo etc. The screenplay has been written by an amazing duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
