Did Doctor Strange Become More Powerful Than ‘The Ancient One’ After He Came Out of The Dark Dimension?

Doctor Strange was the first Superhero origin movie in Phase 3. By the next year, we will have seen 4 origin stories in Phase 3, and Doctor Strange may be the best of all, as it was something totally different, that we had not seen before. Even though the plot of the movie was a little similar to Iron Man, it was still a visual masterpiece that we did not see before. The movie even got an Oscar nomination in the category of visual effects and production design. It has a lot of elements that were touched but left for the sequels to explain.

Till now we do not have an officially announced date for the sequel of the movie, also Benedict Cumberbatch recently in an interview with MTV expressed reservations if he could really survive this thing or not. He said:

“There’s lots of threats coming his way. He holds the Time Stone around his neck for a part of this film. We know someone is coming to get them for a big glove. It might not be. It says you’ll see Doctor Strange again at the end of the first one and you have. You’ve seen him in Thor: Ragnarok and you know he’s in this one. Doesn’t mean there’s gonna be any more of him, so you’ll have to wait and see”.

But let’s assume that Doctor Strange does come out of Infinity War unscathed, the director Scott Derrickson and screenwriter C. Robert Cargill for possible Doctor Strange sequel talked about the villain at a recent screening for the MCU’s mystical movie, and they simply claimed that “Nightmare will be the villain.”

It is good that the sequel will be looking to build up the character of Baron Mordo and show him turn evil, instead of just putting him in as the villain in Doctor Strange 2 itself. So, Baron Mordo will probably be the villain in the third Doctor Strange movie. He left the side of Strange and the Ancient One because they messed with the laws of nature, as the Ancient One drew powers directly from the Dark Dimension in order to protect Earth.

We haven’t really gauged the impact of something that happened in Doctor Strange movie i.e he took a tour of the Dark Dimension, as he was trapped over there for such a long time. He was in a time loop with Dormammu and had faced death 1000s of times. Who knows how long he was in that place. So it had to have some sort of effect upon him. His master ‘The Ancient One’ never explored the dark dimension in a way Strange did. In fact, she was scared of it which is why she lied to Mordo all these years.

Cargill recently revealed that he would have gained ‘More Mastery’ Of Powers In Dark Dimension. Here’s what he tweeted recently:

So, seeing this, we could imagine that Strange would be more powerful than ever, and it would be interesting to see how the MCU handles this. We recently saw him in Thor: Ragnarok and Strange’s character looked really evolved as he had more control over his magic now. So just imagine what insane things he could be capable of when we see him in Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Recently, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed in an interview that Doctor Strange will have really changed drastically in this movie. Here’s what he said:

“We met a very somber person by the end of the first film. I think he’d become crude into the idea of being really heroic is sacrificing your own needs and selfishness for something a little more selfless and doing good for others. That’s a lonely part for the taking. That moment where he looks at the watch, his last vestige to Christine, and then out of the window and there he is in a profile of a hero to come.”

He also talked about the continuation of his evolution that we saw in Ragnarok. He continued:

“That’s the person we meet a little bit in Thor: Ragnarok, giving Thor the run around, and then very much so in this. He’s, as everyone is in this film, constantly taken by surprise by the speed of events, the ramping up of jeopardy, however the events and threats just overtake them basically. Everyone is just playing a game of survival in this film. He still seems to be a little step ahead, slightly book-ending it with some foresight. Also, trying to be more of the adult in the room. There’s still comedy but he’s not quite as petulant and certainly not as egotistical narcissistic as he was in the first film.”

Doctor Strange came out in 2016, the story of a world-renowned surgeon turned into a sorcerer supreme after he lost his hands in a freaky accident. He searched for meaning in his life, wound up in Tibet where he met ‘The Ancient Oné’ who taught him magic and sorcery. Consequently, he shunned traditional medicine and joined the order. Here is the official synopsis for the movie:

“Dr. Stephen Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) life changes after a car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he looks for healing, and hope, in a mysterious enclave. He quickly learns that the enclave is at the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying reality. Before long, Strange is forced to choose between his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence”.

Doctor Strange

We could very well imagine how Doctor Strange could have evolved keeping the Dark Dimension in mind. This aspect may not be touched deeply in Infinity War as the plot of the movie focuses more on the war between the Avengers and Thanos, but the sequels of the solo Doctor Strange would have the time to show us exactly that. And as Mordo said, “The Bill always comes due”, so it would.

Strange will next appear in Avengers Infinity War which opens on April 27, 2018. He will be fighting alongside rest of the Avengers against Mad Titan and his forces that seek to destroy half the humanity. He has in his possession an Infinity stone i.e Time stone, which is one of six cosmic singularities that controls timelines. Thanos will send Ebony Maw (member of Black Order) after Doctor Strange to retrieve ‘Time’ stone which he will be able to after he traps Strange in a powerful mind web which is Maw’s greatest weapon.

Here is the official synopsis released by the Marvel studios, read it below:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.
