After teasing the audiences yesterday with a cryptic tweet, Marvel has finally released the final Avengers Infinity War trailer. The trailer showcases Thanos’ brutality and makes it a point to emphasize the fact that just how big a threat this Mad Titan really is. Although the trailer gives us little when we look at the overall plot or just peruse through the trailer as a piece of novel footage, there are things hidden in the trailer that only eagle eyes fans will spot. Not everyone is a comic nerd, so we at QuirkyByte hereby present you with 15 things you might have missed in the new and final Avengers Infinity War trailer.
Tony Stark and Guardians are working together
The trailer starts with a grim Gamora (adoptive daughter of Thanos and one of the founding members of Guardians of the Galaxy) expressing her concern to Tony Stark. But it’s not a concern at all, it’s the sheer fear of Thanos’ arrival. The Mad Titan is coming for Earth and Gamora is the one who’ll tell the Avengers (most notably Tony Stark). Only then will the guardians and Tony collude to formulate a plan to defeat or deter Thanos. The scene that we view in the trailer is cryptic and we don’t know whether it takes place on Earth or in outer space. But an alliance between Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy seems inevitable in Avengers: Infinity War.
Thor is on Earth
If the previous theory of Iron Man and the Guardians colluding stands try then this also opens the door to the opportunity that Thor (who’s aboard Peter Quill’s ship) may have landed on earth with Gamora. This would make sense, where the movie starts with the Guardians and Thor trying to defend Xandar and power stone that resides within Xandar’s vault from Thanos. But upon defeat, these heroes choose to make a last stand on earth against Thanos’ might.
War Machine is Back in action
At the start of the trailer, for a brief moment, we get a glimpse of three individuals standing at the top of a platform looking up in the sky. These three individuals are Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, Bruce Banner aka The Hulk, and James Rhodes aka War Machine. Fans will remember that James Rhodes was previously injured by Vision during the events of Captain America Civil War.
The laser that hit Rhodes also took out his suit’s power source and as a result War Machine plummeted towards the earth to his demise. The entire incident allowed Captain America to escape Iron Man’s clutches and also incapacitated Rhodes. It afflicted War Machine with the spinal injury that left him incapable of walking, the last we saw of Rhodes was when we see him taking physiotherapy at the end of the civil war to improve his condition. It seems that James Rhodes is finally healed and back in action against Thanos.
Fall of Xandar and Loki’s Betrayal
The next few moments of Gamora’s warning sees Thanos place the space stone in his gauntlet. As all fans know the space stone currently resides at the heart of the Tesseract, which was grabbed by Loki (arguably) at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. The fans theorize that before Thanos makes it to Earth, he will not only destroy Xandar and take the power stone but he will also coerce Loki into yielding the space stone.
Which is why we see Thanos shattering the Tesseract later in the trailer to extract the space stone. Maybe Loki willfully surrenders the tesseract to protect the Asgardians or maybe he has been controlled by Thanos ever since the ending of Thor.
Thanos and finger snapping
The next things comic fans will notice is the “snap of his fingers” reference. Gamora makes the comment in the trailer that if Thanos were to acquire the infinity stones he will end half the life in the universe with a snap of his fingers. Gamora further argues that this has been Thanos’ wish ever since she can remember.
This is a reference to the original infinity war storyline from the comics whereupon gathering all the infinity gems and assembling the infinity gauntlet Thanos actually does end half the life in all of creation just by a snap of his fingers. Thanos undertakes such a brutal pan to please the personification of death, whom he loves dearly. The infinity is a means for Thanos to win Mistress Death’s favor and affection.
Iron Man will leave earth
It seems rather obvious that the movie will have two ring-like mechanisms, one on Xandar and one in New York. It seems that Iron Man (after Gamora’s debriefing back on earth), the Guardians and Thor will take the fight to Thanos above the skies of Xandar. It might be the case that Xandar has already been razed by the Mad Titan and our destitute team of Avengers is only trying to stop Thanos from reaching Earth.
The gateway to Earth
Fans have been curious about the ring-like structures appearing in the trailer for far too long. It now seems that the first two stone to be acquired will be the power stone (obtained by razing Xandar) and space stone (offered by Loki). But Thanos still needs a way to transport his massive troops from the skies of Xandar to Earth. The machine is a way to do that. The theory is that after obtaining the space stone Thanos will use its power to create a portal between Xandar and Earth and the Avengers will try to destroy this portal before an enraged Thanos can step through, giving the heroes on earth some time to prepare for the Mad Titan’s arrival.
Doctor Strange is the key
There are numerous references to the fights that will occur in infinity war. The primary of these clips are focused on heroes like Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. But there is something that fans must realize. It is the fact that Doctor Strange will play a pivotal role in bringing the forces of the Avengers together. This is readily apparent by the fact that Gamora and Tony converse in one of the Sanctorums of the Sorcerer Supreme. It may also be emphasized by the fact that while the conversation happens on earth, the Guardians and Tony seem to be fighting Thanos on Xandar. If both facts stand then the only character who can transport Tony to Xandar that quickly is Steven Strange.
We see in the trailer, a scene where Iron Man rushes in with his air assault towards a ring-like structure (presumably over the skies of Xandar). During this scene we see iron man’s suit transforming itself and creating a new thruster to channel power. How is this possible? The answer is Iron Man’s bleeding edge armor. Bleeding edge is an armor created by Tony Stark by the use of nanotech. This armor has the capability to add weapons on the fly. It can change it’s shape and size and composition to aid the user.
There is a short clip of Shuri examining a hologram 3D model of someone’s head. At first glance, it looks awfully lot like the holographic iteration of Black Panther’s mask but on closer inspection, it becomes apparent that the 3D model is actually of vision’s head. The Mind stone is as clear as day to eagle-eyed viewers. It seems that vision seeks respite in Wakanda where he is assessed by the chief scientist aka Shuri (the king’s little sister and Wakanda’s sharpest mind)
Doctor Strange is a massive threat. The Sorcerer Supreme has powers beyond the realm of belief. Above all of his arcane magic, he is also equipped with the eye of Agamotto or as the comic fans will know it better, The time stone. The Sorcerer Supreme has Dominion not only over the physical realm with his massive arsenal of magic but he can also alter time to his needs. But it seems that during the events of Avenger’s infinity war Doctor Strange is captured and then held in some kind of prison of needles. This may also be a case of classic misdirection by marvel studios. The fact remains to be seen.
It seems prudent to assume that the entire façade of Infinity war will come down to Thanos ripping apart every Avenger in his way to claim Dominion over the infinity Stone and then the universe itself. However, it will be interesting to see Chris Evans’ Captain America taking on Josh Brolin’s Thanos. The contrast is uncanny and pleads to the fact that we might yet see humanity making a stand against The Mad Titan because that is exactly what Captain America is, the Pinnacle of humanity.
The God of Thunder screams and Bleeding Edge burns
There are several instances in the trailer where we see Thanos make short work of Earth’s mightiest heroes. One of these moments is when Thor squirms in pain in the clutches of Thanos.
Another of these moments is when we see Thanos threating an unarmed Tony Stark with what seems like a bleeding edge armor in shreds. It seems highly likely that bother Thor and Bleeding edge Iron Man will fall to the might of Thanos while defending Xandar’s power stone.
Doctor Strange and Spider-Man are the infiltration team
Before the trailer ends, we get a short and quirky exchange between Spiderman and Doctor Strange himself, in what seems like a spaceship. It seems to prudent to assume that this ship is, in fact, the one that shows up on earth through the ring like portal and which carries the troops of Thanos and his generals. We do not k ow what happens next but it seems Spider-Man escapes and Doctor Strange is captured. It’s also possible that Spider-man infiltrates the ship to help out Steven strange and then both parties sabotage the ship from inside. It’s all speculation but both the scenarios are highly likely.
Wakanda is Earth’s last stand
There is a lot of evidence in the new trailer that points to one thing and one thing only. It is the fact that after Thanos defeats Thor and Iron Man and arrives on earth in full force, the armies of the earth will fall one after another and Wakanda will be the only safe place for those harboring the infinity stones (Vision). This may also be the reason why Vision is in Shuri’s care. The war sequences also emphasize the fact that Wakanda is where humanity will make its last stand against the Mad Titan.
