Avengers: Infinity War is just 37 days away, and it’s really unbelievable that we are this close to an epic spectacle we have been waiting for years. We can’t get our brains around the fact that this will be the first time for Thanos to really make his presence feel in an MCU movie. All the heroes that we know are going to assemble against The Mad Titan. As we all know, this is the first movie ever to gather so many Hollywood A-Listers at once and all of them will be characters of great relevance to the story.
Along with Thanos and these characters, the most important aspect of the movie will be the 6 Infinity Stones. Avengers: Infinity War is being set up as a heist movie as Thanos is going to acquire all these stones one by one from the locations they are currently in. Here is what the Russos said about the movie:
“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.
The recent trailer showed that Thanos has indeed acquired 2 Infinity stones i.e Space stone (Tesseract), Power stone (Orb) and hinted upon 2 more in the recent trailer which blew us all away. We know the location of 5 of these stones and have an idea of how things will go through for Thanos while stealing these stones. But, there is one that has not been revealed in the MCU yet, and no one seems to have any idea about its current location at all i.e Soul stone.
Fans believed that Soul Stone is hidden somewhere in the Kingdom of Wakanda under the protection of Black Panther, and this is how the movie will lead into the Avengers Infinity War. But sadly there was no mention, hint or easter-egg whatsoever neither in the movie nor in the post-credits. There are all kinds of fan theories circulating on social media platforms and some of them have gained traction too. For instance, it is now believed that Iron Man may be in possession of Soul stone which would be insane.
The Soul Stone was the trickiest one in the comics as well and it has been set up as the trickiest one in the MCU as well. Earlier people thought that Heimdall has the Soul Stone since he can see all the souls of the entire Universe but that didn’t happen. Then came in the theory that the Soul Stone is in Wakanda because we saw the astral plane in that which is believed to be the equivalent of the Soul World in the comics, created by the Soul Stone.
And, another theory supporting the Wakanda theory is that the siege takes place in Wakanda where everyone is protecting the Stone, but as it turns out, everyone is protecting Vision and the Mind Gem in Wakanda. So, where exactly is the Soul Stone?
A new Theory has come to light which explains why no one knows jack about the Soul Gem and how is Thanos going to retrieve that. Recently, it has been revealed that the orange planet that we have been seeing in the two trailers is actually the planet ‘Titan’ which is the homeworld of Thanos. We saw that Titan is in ruins and even the Avengers head to that planet along with some Guardians according to the trailers. So, why is it that the planet is all ruined, and is there some connection of Titan with the Infinity Stones?
Well, the theory suggests that the reason why we don’t know anything about the Soul Stone is that it has been lost in millennia and even in time. This is what could really explain why it has been hidden from everywhere and no one, not even the likes of Heimdall or the Sorcerer Supreme has any idea about the Stone. It is because it was taken out and hidden somewhere in time itself. So, this would make the Time Stone and the Space Stone really crucial to find the Soul Stone.
We know that Thanos gets the Space gem from Loki, but he needs to acquire the Time Stone from Doctor Strange, which Ebony Maw might do for him. So, when Thanos gets both the Stones (Space and time), he will combine their powers to travel in time and space by opening a portal to the last known location of the Soul Stone. And doing so, might have caused havoc on his Homeworld Titan, which left it in ruins for us to see in the present. This could be a possible history of Thanos’ homeworld tied with the Soul Stone because this would explain how Thanos knows so much about all these Stones and why he needs it.
Also, it establishes a great tie between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 which we know is going to be full of time travel and maybe multiverse stuff. This is how time travel could really be introduced in the MCU. Honestly, this theory is just astonishing as it does explain a lot of plot points, but who knows whether it will come true or not. We can only wait to see what the reality is.
Avengers: Infinity War will open on April 27, 2018. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo aka Russo brothers and produced by Marvel President Kevin Feige along with a set of executive producers including Louis D’Esposito, God of Marvel comics Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, and Michael Grillo etc. The screenplay has been written by an amazing duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The ensemble cast is truly magnificent and a rare feat that can only have been performed by Marvel as it has been able to assemble A-list actors including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Pratt (Starlord), Sebastian Stan (Winter soldier), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Reiner (Hawkeye), Benedict Wong (Wong), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Tom Holland (Spiderman), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Wasp), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Dave Bautista (Drax), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Josh Brolin (Thanos).
The official plot synopsis released by the Marvel studios can be read as:
“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
