Here’s A New Look At Thanos’ Evil Black Order

The Infinity War is one of the greatest comic book events in Marvel’s history. It is now adapted onto the big screen where we will see 35+ of our beloved superheroes pitted against the Mad Titan and his Black Order who are coming to the Earth for Infinity stones. Here is what ‘The Collector’ said about the Infinity gems:

“Before creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingots… Infinity Stones.”―The Collector

The directors of the movie described Avengers Infinity War as a heist movie where Thanos will steal all the Infinity gems to assemble an all-powerful gauntlet which grants its user limitless power and ability to rule the entire cosmos. Here is what Russo brothers said:

Russo brothers

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

Infinity War is going to be upon us in less than 3 months and the hype for the movie is going haywire. We have had two exclusive looks at the movie but still, it wasn’t enough. The first trailer gave us quite a bit and the recent teaser that came out at the Super Bowl also gave us quick shots that led to the creation of more theories. Still, we got to see only some of the characters in these two trailers, and the roster that is going to appear this time around is huge as they all will revolve around Thanos!

There are no less Superheroes appearing in this movie and till now we have seen Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Gamora, Nebula, Captain America, Hulk, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Rocket, Groot, Drax, Star-Lord, Black Widow, and Iron Man pop up in the trailers, but there are villains too. Thanos and his Black Order are going to take on the Earth’s mightiest heroes.

Until now, we have only got a few peeks at Thanos in live action, but nothing at his feared Black Order. Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight and Cull Obsidian are the members of this evil group. In a major departure from Marvel comics, the members of Black Order were introduced as “children of Thanos”. On one hand, Thanos’ cinematic children Gamora and Nebula have totally rejected the overtures made by the Mad Titan and are baying for his blood, while the Black Order is firmly behind Thanos and rallying for his cause. In fact, the speculation is that Thanos will send Black Order to destroy the Wakanda in order to retrieve Soul stone which is hidden somewhere in the Kingdom under the protection of Black Panther.

Till now, we have seen the four of these at Disney D23 and Comic-con where the little statues of Thanos and the Black Order were placed. They were also a part of the official Infinity War poster. But there was nothing about them in the trailers except we know that the one who was attempting to rip off the mind stone out of Vision’s head was Corvus Glaive as the staff gave it away. And also, when Cap first appears in the first trailer, he catches a staff as he enters the scene, that staff was thrown by Proxima Midnight and we know that the siege of Wakanda will be led by Cull Obsidian, and nothing more.

The members of the Black Order made their first appearance in 2013’s New Avengers #8 created by Hickman and Mike Deodato Jr. These dark and powerful cosmic creatures were brought together by the Mad Titan to serve as leaders in an inter-galactic campaign for universal domination. They strictly followed the orders of Thanos, created armies of genetically engineered Outriders and destroyed many worlds for him. They were all wired for a single purpose i.e to conquer the entire worlds for Thanos.

Still, all these members of the Black Order have not yet appeared on the screen and we would have liked to see that very much. In the comics, the members of the Black Order are the generals of Thanos’ army, but here in the MCU, the are Thanos’ children, just like Gamora and Nebula who went rogue in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and are now working against Thanos and the Black Order in order to seek revenge and save the universe.

Now, there is something new for the fans who would love to see something about Thanos’ evil army Black Order. These ‘Children of Thanos’ stand beside the Mad Titan and the Avengers on the new cover of German comics and collectibles magazine Panini Vorschau. Here’s the new cover:

This cover is designed in order to pay homage to George Perez’s classic, an iconic cover of 1991’s Infinity Gauntlet #1. It features Thanos in the center wearing his Infinity Gauntlet with all the Infinity Gems shining brightly in the Gauntlet. Along with the Black Order and Thanos, we can see some of the Avengers and Guardians also standing on the cover. These are all the Avengers that are featured here – Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Gamora, Nebula, Captain America, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Rocket, Groot, Drax, Star-Lord, Black Widow, and Iron Man.

In this cover, we get a specific look at the Black Order. Towards the left is Ebony Maw, the Order’s most cunning member and On the right is Proxima Midnight, a vicious warrior. At the top, we can partially see a shot of shot of the character who was known as Black Dwarf in the comics, but whose name has been changed to Cull Obsidian now.

Hopefully, we get to see a little bit of the Black Order in the next trailer which will probably come out next month. Here’s the synopsis for Avengers: Infinity War:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers Infinity War opens in theatres on May 4, 2018. It is directed by Russo brothers – Joe and Anthony Russo who have mastered the art of making big budget comic book movies (my favorite being Captain America: Civil War). The movie is produced by Kevin Feige along with a host of executive producers such as God of Marvel comics Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo. The screenplay is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
