The less we say about Avengers Infinity War’s anticipation, the better. Not only is the movie slated to be one of the greatest blockbusters of Hollywood when it releases, it will be a milestone in Hollywood History. Seldom has a movie had a stature this grandiose? The only movies that could match Avengers: Infinity War in terms of popularity and anticipation before release were Titanic and Avatar. Avengers Infinity War will probably get ahead of the two, both in terms of popularity and box office collections. To say Infinity War is set to make records is an understatement.
Avengers Infinity War is based on the award-winning The Infinity Gauntlet saga of Marvel Comics. The storyline may have been taken from two other sources namely the 2013 Infinity Storyline and the Secret Avengers story arc of the 2010s. But the most influential among the three story arcs will always be the 1991 Infinity Gauntlet Saga. The Infinity Gauntlet Saga was a milestone in the Marvel Universe/ It not only sowed the seeds of doubt when it comes to the superheroes’ apparent comic book invincibility (before the Infinity Gauntlet saga, there had been no major deaths in the Marvel Universe), it also established Thanos as the front runner of the Big Bad Wolf who could huff and puff not only the Earth but given enough time even the universe away. Infinity Gauntlet established one simple rule within the Marvel Universe – the Good Guy doesn’t always win the fight. Sometimes, the bad guys do end up winning that day.
Since Avengers Infinity War will be taking multiple leaves from Infinity Gauntlet, expect death at every corner. Heroes will die, timelines will change and the very fabric of space and time will be altered forever sans Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet. A lot of our beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes will be breathing their last in the movie. Infinity War will change everything you ever knew about the MCU.
The Super Bowl trailer for Infinity War released amongst much fanfare. Although it did include several new scenes missing from the Official trailer released online last year, it still did not include one iconic Superhero from the Original Avengers team. Hawkeye, one of the founding members of the Avengers was missing from the Official as well as the Super Bowl trailer. This has led to fans thinking – Has Thanos already got to him? Is Hawkeye….no more!!!!
Rest assured he is there. The Official trailer showed him he is actually there. Eagle-eyed fans spotted the bow and arrow wielding archer extraordinaire behind Bucky Barnes in the Wakanda scene of Infinity War. It is only a glimpse but he is definitely alive and kicking. But what perplexes fans, even more, is that Hawkeye was made to sit on the bench when it comes to the Super Bowl trailer for Infinity War. He is yet to be fully revealed in the footage.
What is even more confusing is the fact that when Marvel Studios released a set of 28 emojis on twitter, Hawkeye wasn’t there either. Iron Man, Okoye, War Machine, Spiderman and Doctor Strange were among the heroes who got their own emojis on the social media site but not Hawkeye. The lack of support for Hawkeye even within his own studio is confusing and terrifying at the same time. What the hell is going on?!?!?
Jeremy Renner, who portrays Hawkeye in the MCU movies wrapped up his part of the shooting for both Avengers Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4 movie. This is what his twitter handle said:
“This is not a goodbye, only a see you later.”
Hawkeye’s family man background won many hearts in Avengers 2. The movie may have been one abysmal failure when compared to the rest of the MCU, but Hawkeye’s secret family was one of the most heartwarming highlights of the movie. Renner will sport a new look for Infinity War. Hawkeye will now become Ronin. In the comics, Hawkeye became Ronin after his family was taken away from him. Is that what happens in the movies? If Hawkeye is indeed on a path to vengeance, is that what kills him in Infinity War? Is his imminent death the real reason Hawkeye has been shown so less in the Infinity War trailer?? So many questions, too little answers…..
