Avengers: Infinity War is going to be upon us within almost two months and fans keep going crazy with the hype and anticipation of this movie. As we all know, this is going to be the biggest Superhero ensemble in the history of Superhero movies as there has not been an assembly of so many characters coming together in one epic event. Reportedly, there are going to be 67 main characters in this movie, and Avengers 4 will possibly be even bigger.
Now the point to be noted over here is that not all of these 67 characters are going to be the Superheroes, as mentioned by Scarlett Johansson who plays Natasha Romanoff in the MCU, there will probably be around 35 Superheroes who are going to assemble in the movie. Rest are the villains and other supporting characters in the movie. Nothing of this magnitude and scale has ever been attempted before by any studio or franchise.
Now, we know that Thanos is going to be the big bad of this movie and he is going to bring his evil children along with him who are called as the Black Order.
The Black Order members made their debut appearance in 2013’s New Avengers #8, it was created by Hickman and Mike Deodato Jr. These cosmic creatures were picked by from the Black Quadrant and brought together by Thanos to serve him as launches an inter-galactic campaign for total domination. They followed the orders and instructions of Thanos, carried out large-scale atrocities, burned cities to the ground and destroyed many worlds for him until they found out that all-powerful Infinity Stones are with “The Illuminati”, a secret society/group formed only to keep these gems safe so that they don’t fall into the wrong hands. It is confirmed to feature in the Avengers Infinity War as well with members like Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Black Panther etc. being part of it.
Until now, we have only got a few peeks at Thanos in live action, but nothing at his feared Black Order. Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight and Cull Obsidian are the members of this evil group. Black Order may be new to many fans but they made their animation debut in Avengers Assemble episode “New Frontiers” in 2015.
On one hand, Thanos’ children in the MCU i.e Gamora and Nebula wants to exact a revenge on the Mad Titan and are baying for his blood, while the Black Order is operating at the behest of Thanos and rallying for his cause. In fact, the speculation is that Thanos will send Black Order to destroy the Wakanda in order to retrieve Soul stone which is probably hidden somewhere in the Kingdom under the protection of Black Panther.
Other than the Black Order, we don’t have an idea that who else exactly is going to appear as a villain in the movie. Since the number of characters appearing in the movie is so huge that other than all the characters mentioned above, there will still be room for more villains to be in the story. We don’t know about any new villains coming in, but there has been speculation that Thanos may revive old villains who or dead to fight against the Avengers or some villains who are still alive may come back in the movie. But none of the old villains other than Loki are confirmed to appear just yet.
Well, a new promotional art for the movie has brought in yet another mysterious fact about the movie into the mix. This new art has revealed an unidentified character who looks as if he is another new villain for this movie. It came into spotlight from an Instagram fan account that shows that there is yet another villain that is going to show up in Infinity War along with Thanos and his Black Order.
This new horned villain does not look like any specific villain from the comics. He appears with the members of the Black Order over here but the face of this villain does not look familiar to any other member of the Black Order from the comics. DC fans may relate him to the unused concept art of Steppenwolf if you think about it, because this is a CGI villain that does not relate much to any character from the Marvel comics lore.
Steppenwolf’s unused Concept art
We know that Thanos’ army called the Outriders are going to be the ones causing the siege in Wakanda in order to retrieve an Infinity Stone which they may be guarding. It is really impossible for just “The Black Order” howsoever powerful they may be to destroy all worlds by themselves, so they decided to create these ruthless armies called as “Outriders” who are genetically engineered for a single objective i.e find new worlds, invade and conquer it and repeat the whole cycle again and again.
According to the chatter going on around the internet, this mystery villain may not be an important character of the movie, as there has not been any mention about him whatsoever. Speculation rolls that this villain may perhaps be a field leader of the Outrider army since he does not look exactly like an Outrider because he looks more fierce, bigger and badder!
But if this unidentified character is indeed showing up with the Black Order, then he should have some sort of significant part in the movie, and not be just a minion for the Avengers to crush. Well, who knows what the matter exactly is with this character. Who do you guys think this villain is? Will he have a big role in Infinity War? Tell us in the comments.
Can the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy collectively be able to stop the march of Thanos and his Black Order? Will they be able to save the mankind from the fury of Mad Titan? Well, we will find out soon. Here is the official synopsis released by Marvel studios for Avengers Infinity War.
