Deadpool 2 Trailer May Just Cast Iron Fist Star As Shatterstar

Deadpool 2 is one of the most anticipated superhero movies in the year 2018. The movie earned over $780 million when the cost of production was just $60 million. It became the highest-grossing R-rated movie and most successful X-Men movie ever.

The season of trailers have begun. Although the fans were disappointed when no news surfaced of Deadpool 2 during the Super Bowl, they now rejoice as Fox Studios has finally begun to pick up marketing for the sequel to Deadpool. In a span of one week, we’ve received numerous teasers from the marketing team.

The first of these came in the form of a Deadpool 2 poster featuring Wade being (quite literally) showered by bullets. Say what you might, but this man knows his audience. The studios have, susceptibility, realized that Deadpool is not a character to be actualized as a serious persona; rather the writers continuously use Deadpool’s fourth wall breaks to alleviate boredom. Is this Fox using MCU’s humor formulae to its advantage? We know sex sells, but I think Hollywood is slowly realizing that sarcasm sells even more.

Moving forward in the week we saw the Super Bowl happen and there was the major reveal of Avengers Infinity War, 40 heroes in 30 seconds. Not bad, as a superhero reveals go, but the teaser did little in giving us glimpses of what we might get to see on the screen. MCU has always been good at keeping their story under wraps. Many fans anticipated a Deadpool cameo in the Infinity war teaser but all these hopes were shattered with the final reveal.

Regardless, the Deadpool 2 trailer titled “Meet Cable” arrived after super bowl to satiate all Deadpool needs of fans. The trailer encompassed a lot of classic Deadpool tropes, including but not limited to; crass humor, the fourth wall breaks, pulling cable’s leg so on and so forth.

David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2 said that he has pushed the boundaries of comic books and adapted Cable in a way fans would appreciate. He said:

“Cable has a really interesting and complex backstory. Obviously, no film could ever encapsulate the entire backstory, so I think we’ll find the first introduction is about who this character is. When you look at the Cable and Deadpool comic book series, you see how there is banter between them. Whether they are on opposite sides or not, they are definitely formidable to each other. One is frustrating to the other. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin is amazing. It’s not unlike what you see in the Cable and Deadpool series”.

He added:

“The success of the first film has given us license to explore opening up the world and actually being more provocative. That’s what people are going to expect. They did such an incredible job with the first film — I’m such a huge fan, that it’s exciting to get to play in that sandbox. The fun thing about Deadpool is, there are no rules. Look at the comic book series. There aren’t any rules. We break them! That’s what is fun”.

As the trailer progresses we get this shot of Deadpool about to exit a jet (presumably the X-Men plane) with a bunch of mutants. Seems routine enough, a protagonist with a bunch of support cast, nothing to see here. But hold on.

While the two mutants standing beside Deadpool are clearly visible and reveal that Terry Crews will be joining the Fox universe of heroes, it is the one obscured from view who has intrigued the audiences. Eagle-eyed Twitter user HELLB0YES spotted something rather peculiar in the trailer and posted this tweet.

Who is this? What is this tweet? And why am I so worked up about it? Calm down comic fans, I’ll answer each one of your questions but bear with me for just a bit longer. The mutant pointed out by HELLB0YES on Twitter is none other than SHATTERSTAR.

SHATTERSTAR was introduced first in the New Mutants #99 vol.1. The comic book iteration of the character is a warrior and a time traveler. The character of SHATTERSTAR was ‘born’ / genetically engineered by a slave in the future world of Mojoworld to be an arena warrior in the empire of Mojo. This was the origin of the character.

SHATTERSTAR would fight in the arena (with all his enhanced physical abilities) and gain his exceptional combat prowess. This “superhero” would be a source of entertainment for people who inhabited Mojoworld. This is the place where this unruly mutant slowly realizes the tyranny he’s been a part of all this time. Once SHATTERSTAR comes to terms with the realities of his existence he joins up with a resistance group to end Mojo’s reign.

SHATTERSTAR is sent on a time-traveling mission to accomplish a small objective, and this is where he meets the X-Men as we know them today. What’s more is that in the subsequent comic arcs Cable and Shatterstar form an uncanny alliance where Cable offers help to Shatterstar in dismantling Mojo’s rule by using time travel in exchange Shatterstar’s help with Cable’s current mission.

The Deadpool trailer that fans received was titled “Meet Cable”, we expected to be barraged by Cable lore in small and large capacities. But Fox really pulled a bunny out of its hat by throwing Shatterstar into the mix. The mutant is exceptionally powerful and has varying capabilities, which might be showcased in Deadpool 2. The existence of Cable and Shatterstar both in the sequel goes to prove that it is highly likely that the plot of Deadpool 2 might have something to do with time travel.

What’s more is that the suspected actor playing the part seems to be Iron fist actor Lewis Tan. Although Lewis Tan was liking all posts Shatterstar since the start of the day he suddenly disconnected from the internet world. Suspicious? Perhaps.

The new official synopsis of the movie has been released by studio, read it below:

“After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover”.

Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool said with gusto,

“The Game is afoot. Oh man, this could not be more exciting for the fans as well as for all the great talent bringing Deadpool 2 to life! Deadpool! Cable! Domino! Colossus! Fans, brace yourself, you have no idea all the awesome that is coming your way! The best news is that June 1 is closer today than it was yesterday!!”

Deadpool 2 comes out May 18, 2018, showcasing Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with the mouth. For everything Fox and Marvel, stick around. Also, the script writer Rhett Reese has teased X-Force in the Deadpool universe, yet another reason to check out the movie. Here’s what he said about the journey so far:

“I think what we stumbled into was a new tone, I think we hope to have our own universe that is defined less by characters and timelines and things like that and more by tone. The hope is Deadpool 2 and X-Force and future movies all be this new, consistent, sillier tone. More self-aware tone. And edgier and rated-R tone. We want to be establishing the universe but also focusing on each individual movie and not worrying too much about building a larger threat to the world or a larger plot machination.”

“There is a responsibility we have towards the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2. Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.”

Hopefully, we will see a cracker of a sequel. CHEERS!
