Avengers 4 May Reboot The MCU With Time Travel

Fans are dying to witness the greatest comic-book even on the big screen i.e Infinity War and are latching onto every little detail coming out in the public domain. The story will be told in two parts – Avengers Infinity War and Avengers 4 (which is untitled). Kevin Feige has said time and again that the title of the fourth movie will be revealed at the right time i.e post Avengers Infinity War as it is a major spoiler.

The first part will be told from Team Avengers and Guardians perspective in which they will lose all the Infinity gems and see the horrors unleashed by Thanos along with Black Order. The second part will be from Mad Titan’s point of view as he is wreaking havoc upon the cosmos in pursuit of becoming the only powerful ruler as he has assembled Infinity gauntlet.

Time will play a subtle role in the fourth iteration of the Avengers arc. Until now the heroes have had tremendous luck while fighting the bad guys. Ultron and his robotic army wreaked havoc on Sokovia. They killed scores of people.

Thousands died when an entire city was lifted up to the stratosphere. Yet among the Avengers – the very guys Ultron was trying to kill, there was just one casualty.

In the previous iteration to Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers faced a threat that was relatively even more dangerous. Loki is by far the greatest addition to the villain’s roster to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is the greatest villain till date (although my favorite now is Hela) but fans still whistle when Loki shows up.

He opened a portal using Infinity gem “Tesseract” and invaded New York with his chitauri army of ruthless alien fighters, but guess what the mighty Avengers saved the day without any loss of life among the rank and file.

Marvel always had trouble depicting villainy on the Big Screen (something that still haunts Marvel and makes it a subject of constant ridicule). But they did at least one thing right. From Red Skull to Mandarin, Ultron to Winter Soldier, the villains were menacing and powerful but their depiction was little clumsy and over the top.

In Avengers, Loki led an entire armada of a space-faring warrior race into an invasion of a vastly technologically inferior planet that is Earth. Just imagine 6 guys went against Loki. Six in total! Yet the alien Armada was stopped in its tracks. The Heroes suffered no deaths among their members.

Logic was thrown out of the window and to add insult to injury, they even had shawarma later as die-hard comic book fans facepalmed in disgust. Death is a concept lost to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But recent rumors claim the situation on ground zero is about to change. Thanos is the greatest threat the Avengers have ever faced, not only in the comic books but also in the movies. His threat does not coincide with destroying only the Avengers or a revenge mission on a bunch of people or levelling a country.

No, sir, it ain’t. Thanos wants the entire cosmos, not just one planet. And he knows the Avengers will be the only thing standing in his way. The fans know that Thanos is ruthless. He will use lethal force at the slightest doubts of victory.

Bottom Line – A lot of Marvel superheroes are about to meet their maker in Avengers: Infinity War.

But then what about the future of the MCU? If the mainstream heroes die, who will carry the Marvel Universe on their shoulder? Fear not for the heroes won’t stay in Valhalla for long. Like I said, death is a concept lost to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Avengers 4 storyline will use time travel as a plot device to bring back all the heroes into the land of the living again. *Sigh*

A new fan theory proposes something exactly along the lines of that. Thanos and his Black Order will supposedly end up winning the Infinity War. The heroes will die a miserable death. As all future looks dark and bleak, Doctor Strange will try the impossible. He already has powers of time manipulation as seen in Doctor Strange.

All he has to do this time is rewind the clock a little more than he is used to. He then will travel throughout time to hire the fallen heroes and renew the rebellion against Thanos.

Several instances support the Strange-Time Travel theory. Gwyneth Paltrow wearing the Iron Man mech suit from Iron Man 3, Evangeline Lily sporting a hairstyle similar to the one she did in Ant-Man and Black Widow was once seen wearing the same dress she did in Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Vision revisiting the Iron Man hall of armors and a casting call that indicates a funeral scene in the 1940s or 1960s also help second this rumor. Here’s the description of casting call:

“Mourners: Looking for men and women over the age of 18, all ethnicities, to portray mourners. Especially looking for good character looks and expressive faces. This will be photo selected by the film’s directors! Size restrictions: Men no larger than 44 coat, women dress size 0-8. FOR NEW FACES ONLY! You cannot have worked on this project previously, or be booked on upcoming days. NO EXCEPTIONS!”

This could actually be helpful to the MCU in more than one ways. Several actors want to leave the MCU after being a part of it for a long time. The actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth will have their contracts expired by the end of Avengers 4. Hence, a Time Travel event could be used to introduce subtle changes to the mainstream continuity. New faces could emerge and the old ones can pave the way for them.

Another fan theory circling around is that some of the Avengers may be replaced by their Skrull versions as they possess shape-shifting skills to impersonate the original members. Moreover, as Disney has got the rights of many Fox characters, a soft reboot will also allow the makers to bring X-Men and characters of the Spiderman Universe into the MCU.

Disney has already bought Fox Studios. Now all they need is to open the door to MCU for them. This is pure speculation at this point. Fans will most likely start getting answers as we wind up the phase 3 of MCU. The next phase will be a fresh start for the entire cinematic universe.

Marvel Studios released a new official synopsis of the upcoming movie Avengers Infinity War:

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.

The Russo brothers – Anthony and Joe Russo are directing the film, produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are the executive producers. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely have written the screenplay. Avengers: Infinity War hits the theaters on May 4th, 2018.
