With the immense success of the horror flick ‘IT’, the horror film market has certainly risen again and people are getting into scary movie vibe again. Movies like Slender man, Serial Killer, Mental Institution movies are still loved by high school goers but here we are talking about real horror and not sci-fi horror. Emily Blunt will also feature in a horror film this year. For all the horror movie junkies out there, 2018 will definitely be a great time because there are a lot of upcoming horror movies that are coming out next year and here is a list of some of them.
Suspiria:
The 1997 horror flick is a true classic and is extremely memorable and celebrated. Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is set to bring the remake on screens with Chloe Grace Moretz, Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton as the leads in the movie. The shooting has been finished and the film will hit the screens soon.
Slice:
Grammy winner Chance the rapper is a part of this horror film project which revolves around the murder of a pizza delivery guy and there is a werewolf involved too. This movie is expected to be something offbeat and unique and the details of the movie are being kept a secret which increases the anticipation even more.
I Know What You Did Last Summer:
So the original movie took the 90s by storm and became one of the most successful horror flicks. Followed by two sequels that sucked and were huge flops the series died a disgraceful death. Now Mike Flanagan has taken the challenge to bring a remake to the screens and stick to the original novel by Lois Duncan which seems like a great idea after those unsuccessful sequels.
The house with a clock in its walls:
Based on the children’s book written by John Bellairs, this is a horror film which is not R-rated and can be watched by kids too. The story revolves around a 10-year-old who discovers things in his uncle’s creepy old house. He soon discovers that his uncle is a warlock and the neighbor is a witch and there is a ticking noise in between the walls of the house. The movie has a promising cast that includes Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.
The Purge: The Island
One of the weirdest plots ever is the plot of the Purge series where every crime is legal for a night every year (scary right?). There have been two movies in the series by far and the upcoming film will be a prequel. The movie is expected to be thrilling and will definitely send a chill down your spine.
Winchester: The house that ghosts built
Based on a true story this film stars British legend Helen Mirren in the leading role of Sarah Winchester who builds a home John Bellairs or an asylum for ghosts. The movie is directed by the director who recently directed ‘Jigsaw’ and looks very promising.
Halloween:
The original movie is considered a classic but the sequels were not that successful. Offering continuity only to the original movie, this sequel is expected to be good and Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role in the movie after a long time.
Insidious: The last key
The Insidious series is probably one of the most loved horror movie series of recent times and has earned a lot at the box office and the latest movie is just at the corner. ‘Insidious: The last key’ is scheduled to be released on 5 January 2018 which is the first week of next year a lot is at stake with this already successful series.
The Nun:
After the success of ‘The Conjuring’, ‘Annabelle’ and ‘Conjuring 2’ the series is ready to give you another fright with the latest film called ‘the Nun’. In ‘Conjuring 2’, a scene featured an eerie painting of a nun that got the viewer’s talking. ‘The Nun’ will tell the backstory of the woman in that painting. Producer James Wan says that the movie will fit perfectly into the Conjuring universe. He’s even got an idea for a sequel that will make it all come full circle.
New Mutants:
The Marvel movie franchise is now taking a scary turn with this movie. ‘New mutants’ is a spinoff to the X-Men series and will tell the story of 5 young mutants held against their will in a secret facility. The movie featured young stars like Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton and some others and is directed by Josh Boone. The movie is being made in a full horror movie style and will be an interesting take on the X-men franchise.
