Wonder Woman vs Steppenwolf: Who Will Lose?
Diana of Themiscira is the only female and true warrior of the Justice League. Her fighting prowess is unmatched and has no parallel on earth. Steppenwolf is a renowned general of the planet Apokolips – a civilization of ‘New Gods’ who have devoted their entire life to nothing but one goal, that is, waging war. What happens when Earth’s mightiest warrior and Apokolips’ strongest general come face to face in single combat. This new TV spot for the Justice League helps us find out.
The latest Television spot shows Wonder Woman jumping into battle to challenge Steppenwolf and his army. A parademon tries to stop her but to no avail.
The princess of the Amazons is unstoppable. As she disposes of the minion well to quickly, she warns Steppenwolf. He overestimates himself and underestimates Earth’ ability to fight back. If I were Steppenwolf, I would listen.
Steppenwolf of Apokolips is Darkseid’s uncle in the comics. But the movie version offers significant changes to his character. In the movies the character of Steppenwolf, played by Ciaran Hinds, is no more the uncle but the nephew. Darkseid is the uncle. The roles have been reversed.
There have been conflicting reports claiming the news to be false. That Steppenwolf is indeed Darkseid’s uncle. That the news about Darkseid not being the nephew anymore is false. There are also reports of the roles being reversed back to as they were. What has happened we will never know until the movie hits the screens.
According to Geek Magazine:
“In Justice League, Batman and Wonder Woman, following Superman’s death in battling Doomsday, is intent on bringing together a team to take on Steppenwolf. This new menace is the nephew to Darkseid of Apokolips (presumably the big bad of the second JL adventure). Steppenwolf is on Earth to retrieve three Mother Boxes, one of which is now a part of Cyborg.”
So, this version of Steppenwolf won’t be the same as we have seen in the comics. His character backstory has prominent changes. Does that mean he is stronger now than he was in the comics? Hey don’t look at us like that. If the character could have his history changed, what’s stopping the powers that be from doing the same to his abilities.
Steppenwolf was first shown in the deleted scenes of Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. He is seen interacting with the baddie of the show Lex Luthor inside the downed Kryptonian mothership. Luthor can be scene exploring the ship as he activates a three dimensional Hologram of Steppenwolf with Motherboxes looming nearby.
Diana, on the other hand, has had her story and origin stay almost the same and loyal to the comic imprint. After Wonder Woman hit the theatres, we realized how much of a badass the woman can be. As the daughter of the queen of the Amazons, she has been training her whole life for a fight like this. Can she trump Steppenwolf or will the warmonger best her?
The Amazons are not completely aloof of Steppenwolf’s existence. There have been footage to explain the Amazons and the parademon forces do meet to exchange blows. Whether it is a flashback where Steppenwolf first lands on Earth to scout her strength or in the present day to invade the planet once and for all is still up for debate. Nevertheless, the tension between the Amazons and Apokoliptian forces does exist somewhere around. So the rivalry between Diana and Steppenwolf is absolute.
Justice League pits the Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman, all played by an ensemble cast, against Steppenwolf and his forces as they try and invade our home-planet.
The official synopsis reads:
“In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of meta-humans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions”.
The Role of Wonder Woman in the movie is of paramount importance:
“Once again, Wonder Woman must demonstrate her ability as a fierce warrior. Facing a great enemy, she and Batman join forces to recruit a group of meta-humans to stand against this newly awakened threat. Having formed an unprecedented League of heroes, they set out to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
